Hi all,
I'm booked in to see a consultant on wednesday and will be having a colposcopy. I am a bit scared by this, one cause I don't know why I'm having this procedure as all smear tests have been fine and no abnormalities have been found, two I really don't like hospitals and three I've never had one before.
Has anyone got any advise to put my mind at rest?

Hi Medowsweet, sorry to hear you are going through the mill a bit a the moment. Just a quick reply colonoscopy involves a examination of the back passage by way of a small fexible camera. It doent hurt tho may be a little uncomfortable. It can feel a little embarrasing 80! however it isnt for the nurses/doctors who will be treating you and they are there to help you and maintain your privacy and dignity at all time. They did used to offer a mild seditive so if you do feel a little nervous feel free to take it I hope someone is able to come to the hospital with you as that will be a comfort to you to. I have found this website which is excellant at explaining in simple term the full details of the procedure

hope that help, you take care and do let us know that all is ok
Love+light namaste 🙂

Polly Pips, it's a colposcopy not a colonoscopy 🙂
I've just read somewhere that it's painless, but I really wouldn't trust that it is, so I'll send you some reiki nearer the time. I'm sure with no explanation from your doctor as to why it's necessary, it must be quite nerve-wracking.
Much love,

Pollyp - Meadowsweet it having a colposcopy - not colonoscopy!
Don't worry Meadowsweet. I had a colposcopy done a few years ago. Some lidocaine was applied very swiftly to my cervix (I didn't even notice!) and then, once that had started working, the doctor took a couple of biopsies from the area of the cervix. The staff were very kind - the doctor told me to smile a couple of times - I asked if I was being filmed and he said no, he just wanted me to relax!! It was all over in about 8 minutes. The results were all clear, they just wanted to be thorough, as the smear had shown a higher number of abnormal cells than usual.
Thank you for the responses, colonoscopy and colposcopy are similar in spelling and did make me giggle. 😀
Fingers crossed its all over with quickly, I will be asking if I can take a little valium before I go, got some spare from the last lot of tests I've had. I'm going to be doing some EFT too to help as it has in the past.
I have been advised I have a fibroid, so I'm guessing that the colposcopy is to rule out any other issues that may be lurking on the outside of my womb before they investigate within it.
Not looking forward to it, have calmed down a now after the initial "Oh my goddess, what are they going to do to me" thoughts, a cry and a mope. I'm taking it a test at a time me thinks

Hi meadowsweet, I had one many years ago and found it only slightly more uncomfortable than a smear test. The main thing is to relax AMAP.
The nurses etc were really kind.
At least it will put your mind at rest when you get the results.
Well had it done, not the greatest experience I must say.
They took a biopsy of a vascular area that bled when touched so have to wait for the results of that, other than that everything looked fine. Now waiting for an ultrasound for them to have a look at the fibroid. Done one of these before so will be fine with that. 🙂
Thanks for all your support, it is very much appreciated.

Lol meadowsweet, glad it all went ok despite orifice mix up lol ha ha will reiki for best outcome least you dont need specs for that lol :)xx
Thanks again.
Am finding that I'm exhausted since the procedure was done. There is some bleeding but not as much as I'd thought there would be.
I don't feel able to do anything, I'm going to try speak to the GP tomorrow because I don't think I should be feeling this tired.

when i had mine done the other week, the day after i was tired but now about 10 days later i am ok.
Thanks Crystal Rose,
That makes me feel better. I had the procedure done on Wednesday maybe I just need to rest a bit longer and be a patient patient instead of an impatient one.
Good luck with any results your expecting.
