I just got married there in January and we're not really trying for a baby so I went on the pill. Thing is my GP took me off it again cos it was making me react pretty badly so he said to use condoms which we have been doing. No condoms have burst but i'm a good 4 days late for my period now. I've done 4 pregnancy tests and they all say negative but it's unlike me to be this late. Can anyone suggest where my period has gone and how to get it back?

Jellybeans.

RE: absent period

Quite a simaliar thing happened to me last week the only thing was i was 11 days late which is very unusual and i am trying for a baby so was upset when they came my doc did test to see if i was aneamic (not sure how to spell it) but i am not and my period eventually came when i stopped worrying about it sometimes stress can effect them no matter how regular ( i can set my clock by mine usually) but again sometimes it can also take up to two weeks for a positive test result if you are pregnant.

Either way i hope you are happy with the end result.

keep us posted

RE: absent period

Hmm so a week on and still no period. What I have noticed is I've been getting all the symptoms I usually have during my period (feeling nautios, having cramps etc) but no blood. Should I be worried that my seemingly absent period isn't so much absent as it is just plain weird? I've took yet another pregnancy test just to be sure but I don't want to annoy my GP. At the end of last year I had problems with too much bleeding and now i have none at all lol.

RE: absent period

Hi Jellybeans

How did it turn out? Cause Im having exactly the same thing going on now. A week late and all the signs of an impending period (ie the abdominal feelings) but no actual blood. I have also been getting mid cycle spotting for the past two months which is weird as Ive never had that before. Ive done 2 pregnancy tests, both negative, so like you Im a bit confused about whats happening.

What was the outcome for you?

I had something similar happen last year, 3 missed periods then lots of bleeding. Always lots of cramping and feeling bloated, lots of mood swings going on too.

Doc sent me for a scan in the end even though he couldn't find anything wrong. He suspected a very early miscarriage that my body struggled with but nothing was confirmed and the best he could do was diagnose 'a mystery'

I think we all know our own bodies best. Trust how you feel and if you do think you need to see your GP, go! You aren't wasting time in getting his opinion, that's what he's there for 🙂

Absent period?!?

Hey Jellybeans and Flame7,
I am having the exact same problem as you two, I'm a week late on my period but am still getting the usual symptoms like abdominal aches, headaches, MOODINESS (which isn't nice for my immediate family getting snapped at all the time! lol) etc etc but absolutely no blood! Altho saying that - at the beginning of the week that I was spose to come on I had slight brown discharge which only lasted a day or so and since I had my son 2.5 yrs ago that's all I'v had for a period - brown discharge but never usually only lasting a day! It's all very weird. I did a pregnancy test and it came back negative but I'm going to do another one in a week or so if I still havn't come on. I have been on the pill for about 9 years now and I stopped taking it a week ago because I was 2 weeks behind on my pill (dunno how I forgot to take them!) and thought I'd restart a new pack after my period so I dunno if that is why I havn't had a period, Hmmmm :-S

as far as i know, the periods you get on the pill are sort of fake periods that are regulated by the pill, if you have had to come off the pill, then the regulation stops, you will have to wait for your body to return to its own schedule before you will become regular again. Although because of the hormones being up and down from no pill, you will still get pains/cramps.

Just keep a note of your last pill/bleed and go to your gp if you are still worried, no bleed is abviously something that women worry about, so dont think you would be wasting gp's time....peace of mind.

Reasons for No Period..don't worry!

Hey ladies!

As so many of you seems to be concerned about not having your normal monthly period..I thought as a Physiologist (and as someone who works as a Sex therapist) I would shed some light here:

Unlike someone who never had a period in their life (primary Amenorrhoea ), what you are all describing here is a secondary Amenorrhoea where period is absent for up to 6 months or more in some women.

If you were not pregnant or recently had a baby, often the reason for this is a hypothalamic causes like stress , mild depression, exercising too much, even anorexia (something I counsel for)..recent illness or medications' side effect, or even having Polycystic ovaries can result in your period stopping for a short time..
At times travelling or tiredness can also add to this condition..

The best thing is not to overly worry as excess production of Cortisol (our stress hormones further aggravates our fine balance between Oestrogen and Progesterone..so more void periods.!.

If ever in doubt don't worry about troubling your GP and go and get a blood test (not just a pregnancy kit test using your urine) to rule out pregnancy. if neccessary you may even need CT or MRI scan of your ovary /womb to rule out any abnormalities.

Eat well..sleep better, and take moderate exercise..to keep your body in good shape..Things like Mango, Chickpeas, tofu and beetroots are great food rich in oestrogen production or womb caring food that you want to have on your weekly diet..

Above all, shift your focus so you don't find your self pre-occupied obsessing about the lack of your period..as this in it self can cause a vicious cycle..

All my best to you

Vathani x

Absent Periods

Contrary to popular opinion, tofu or any soy that is not fermented is not good for us. They are highly oestrogenic and in the UK there is enough oestrogen in the tap water alone.

Soy foods are purely good marketing, they are not the 'cure' all that many believe. Fermented soy foods in moderation have their place in the diet but soy milk and soy burgers are, in my humble opinion, best avoided.

www.BodyEcology.com is a good place to start with looking at wholesome foods and certainly I agree that adequate sleep is crucial. Do you have wireless technology in your home? if you do, make sure that that is turned off at night as it has been seen to upset our sleeping patterns. If you can sleep with darkened curtains. There is a good book The Garden of Fertility that talks about how to get our cycles sorted out and not only with the goal of pregnancy but for good health.

Again the body is so clever that it tries to heal itself when it can; good food, sleep, relaxation and walks in the fresh air and a positive attitude, as has been said, not focussing on the issue, you will be just fine. The body is cleverer than any of us can imagine!

All the best
Joanna
