I happened across the Oil Cleansing Method while I was browsing the net at the weekend. It's on loads of websites including - http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ . I tried it out yesterday and found it amazing. My skin feels great. I wanted to share it with you but also would like to know if any of you use this as part of your skincare routine, why you use it (e.g. for specific skin complaint, type, etc.), and how effective you have found it to be. How regularly do you do it?
I tried this, primarily because i have oily skin and a congested complexion. While initially it worked ( i used virgin olive oil), alas, it made my skin worse so had to stop using it.:( On contemplation though, i may have been better off using it sparingly (1-2 a week) instead of daily.:)

Hi, I use an oil to cleanse on myself and my clients. It's rice bran based by Akamuti called Japanese Beauty Oil. Works a treat for me on my dry/mature skin. I use it every evening and I've noticed an improvement in my skin tone and suppleness since using it (about a month).

Thanks for that Lavandula, that's one I fancy trying. Which oils did you use?

I've got quite dry skin and I didn't have any sunflower oil so I mixed 3 tsp Sweet Almond oil with 1 tsp Castor Oil which is enough for about 4-5 applications. I also added 4 drops of Neroli essential oil. Smelt and felt great.
I've now undone all the good work by constantly blowing my nose today which has made the skin around my nose all dry and red - dreaded hayfever!
I was given a bottle of cleansing oil by Trevano at the Natural and Organic show 2 years ago and have been using oil as a cleanser every day since
I add essential oils to a blend of EPO, jojoba and organic oil and have found that my skin feels so much better for it - I am 44 and my skin was beginning to get quite dry. I also like the fact that I dont have to use separate eye cleanser and it actually works on waterproof mascara as well.
I am certainly a convert
hemelgirl and Raya - have you used the oils in conjunction with steaming as in the method I mentioned or do you just put the oil on, work it in, and wipe off?
For me it's oil on, massage in, sometimes leave for a bit then wipe off with damp cotton wool run under warm water. Like you hemelgirl, I like the fact you don't need a separate eye make up remover which means you are using less products on your skin which I think is a good thing!
I'm eager to try the Oil Cleansing Method having suffered with an oily T-zone for years. Have tried various brands but to no avail. I've been unable to buy Castor Oil as it seems that chemists do not stock this anymore due to health risks. Does anyone know where I can buy this?
Jackie
I bought my bottle online - it seems to be with essential oil suppliers where I got most lucky.
I started this method about a month back, and my skin feel plump and radiant. However, this doesn't last if you stop doing it (unfortunately for me!)
Must get back on it today and get oiling!

Hi, I cleanse with oil in my holistic facials and I always use oil to cleanse my own face and eye makeup.
The best oil for me is Apricot as it is a natural cleanser. For eyes I use jojoba as it also takes off waterproof mascara and the skin doesn't drag. The skin feels lovely and clean after an oil cleanse. I thoroughly recommend it.

I got mine from Boots at The Fort - it's organic and cost £1.29 for 100ml, so it's possible you might get it from Boots on The Parade as well.

Hi Anna
I tried Boots at the Parade and they said they couldn't stock it anymore for health reasons. I've since bought it online, but will certainly try the Fort next time.
Will be starting the Oil Cleansing Method tonight.

Hi Jackie
They're still selling castor oil at the Fort, i bought 2 bottles earlier in the week, how are you getting on with the oil cleansing?
Anna
I read that this technique was supposed to shrink pores and get rid of blackheads but I haven't noticed any difference. I use a mixture of olive oil and castor oil to take my makeup off. It's cheap and no chemical ingredients, so why not?
