I have always had quite good skin. Even as a teenager I got away with only a few spots and blackheads.
I'm now 32 and am plagued by spots and greasy skin. They always appear on my cheeks and I wonder why. When I was younger, spots only ever appeared on my chin or forehead.
I am having quite a stressful time at the moment and am wondering if this is the cause, or could it be hormones? And why now at the age of 32?
Any ideas?
RE: Spots on cheeks
Hi Jade, im sorry, i dont know the answer for your spots on the cheek problem. Im trying to get rid of the spots on my chin. i was looking through some photos on the weekend and noticed they started around when i was 18 now 24. Im in the long hellish process of eliminating everything in and out of my diet and routine. I gave up wheat for a month, tried digestion tablets for a month, used specialwash products,i drink the correct amount of water everyday and ive just started to have zinc tablets. My bigidea this morning was to give uptea and coffee, cause im sure they are the root of all evil.
Good luckan im sure youll find the answer if your willing, pjay
RE: Spots on cheeks
Adult acne is getting more common in women, obvious things like diet; hormones, stressand pollutionare sometimes the cause.I recently readthat according to Chinese medicine theory the location of the spots is relevant to the cause - I will try and find the article linkfor you.
if your skin feels greasy try using a spray moisturiser (like the body shop vitamin e spray), it helps as you don't touch your face.Though they can be expensive, regularsalon facials help, Dermalogica Facials are great! Sunshine is great for skin problems, but try to find a SPF cream that doesnt negate the benefit of sunshine by clogging your pores up There are some great products now for adult problem skin, websites and department stores often give samples and free advice. Garnier Pure A works really well for a lot of people, the night gel is very soothing and non-greasy.
This is some of the advice we give at work...
Washing your hands and frequently applying anti-bac gel to hands-we touch our faces much more than we realise! If it's feasibleuse cotton pillow cases for bedand change daily, washing pillow cases in mild detergent (even if your body skin does not have problems with your regular washing powder, your face skin is more sensitive and spends a lot of time on the pillow!)
A cleansing routine, two or three times a dayis important, a lot of the ladies who come to us are actually making the problem worse by frantically cleansing, using a glut of harsh products, then smothering themselves in heavy make-up to hide outbreaks.
Put2 xflannels in hot water with lemon, lavender and tea tree oil, apply a cream cleanser and usethefirstcloth to firmly wipe away the cleanserand repeat. The texture of the face-cloth will gently exfoliate without needing to scrub
Take the second cloth and lay it over your face for a couple of minutes, (weekly use a clay mask after warming your pores) after cleansing (or rinsing the mask away) saturate a cotton pad withsome rosewater and witch-hazel and wipe over face.
Selenium, zinc, magnesium, Vitamin A,C, D and E are all useful for improving skin, either as dietary supplement or added to a clay face mask at home. Perfectil is a good supplement for skin, but there are probably cheaper versions of the same thing on the shelves! kiwi fruit is brilliant (eaten or mashed up in a face pack, please PM if you would like a recipe for kiwi and honeyface pack)
For individual problem spots get some neat tea-tree and lavender oilor quinoderm creamand apply it directly to theblemish with a q-tip, after cleansing and before applying moisturiser.
I hope some of this is helpful

RE: Spots on cheeks
Thanks for the advice.
I will try what you have said. I've been using tea tree oil on the spots already but the flannel idea sounds like it might help.
Also, I will see if I can save my pennies for a proper facial. Do you know where I can specifically get dermatalogica ones?
RE: Spots on cheeks
I would suggest getting some evening primrose oil capsules and taking these daily. I have seen a big improvement in my skin. It will take up to 12 weeks for the essential fatty acids to be effective and they need to be taken daily as our body cannot make EFA's. EFA's are really important for healthy skin-also found in sunflower and pumkin seeds, oily fish etc Dermalogica products are great, they have a good oil free moisturiser. Search the internet for good deals on their products as they areso much more in the salons. As to how to find a dermalogica facial- it depends on what products the salon favours so it is best to ring and enquire.
good luck, i know how frustrating it can be-i'm 33, was really hoping i'd outgrown all of that but the doctor says it is normal to have spots in 30's and 40's too! I think it is alot to do with hormones. I think Evening primrose sorts all of this out

RE: Spots on cheeks
There's some great advice, how did you get on Jade? I had the same problem for years up until a few months ago. I finally went to the Dr's about it ( I don't know why I didn't in the first place!) and she told me I had a hormone inbalance. It might be worth a trip to the Dr's just in case.
Good luck x
Hey People! 🙂
I am 27 yrs old. I have also had breakouts on my cheeks now for the past 2 years and before then I had never suffered with acne or spots at all. I guess that makes it more harder to deal with when you are so used to having perfect skin. I have recently tried something out and its working for me.....(so far) I have cut down all dairy from my diet, the difference in my skin is amazing. It has really cleared up. I went back to dairy and low & behold the spots were back. Its very hard tho as most food I enjoy is dairy. Only thing I do have is goats milk in my tea and coffee. As i have heard nothing but good about it. I think cows milk is very bad for me now, I have felt so much better since I have taken it out of my diet. I don't know whether you have read "you are what you eat book" There is a passage in their explaining why cows milk is so bad for you and that dairy can be the cause of acne.
In his paper, Dr. Danby posits, "But how could milk cause acne? Because drinking milk and consuming dairy products from pregnant cows exposes us to the hormones produced by the cows pregnancy hormones that we were not designed to consume during our teenage and adult years. It is no secret that teenagers acne closely parallels hormonal activity..."

I hope this has been of some help to you. I know how frustrating it is to have spots you just can't get rid of. Hope mine don't come back!

Hi,
I am currently working on a brand new television series for Channel 4 called ‘The Food Hospital’ (working title). The idea of the programme is to explore the possible health benefits of everyday foods in targeting a wide range of medical conditions and symptoms. I am hoping this will be of interest to you.
There’s plenty of evidence to say that our health and our diet are closely linked and current scientific research shows that certain foods can be used to treat some illnesses and / or their symptoms.
Patients attending ‘The Food Hospital’ will be advised by our team of medical professionals, including a GP, a specialist medical Consultant and a leading Dietitian. Using evidence-based, cutting-edge scientific research, the team will prescribe specific diets for the treatment of the patients’ conditions or symptoms.
The team will welcome patients with serious illnesses and everyday ailments alike. The treatment that the Food Hospital will offer is intended to be followed in conjunction with the patient’s existing medical regime, and the Food Hospital medical team will endeavour to work collaboratively with the patient’s current medical advisors.
We are currently looking to speak to people who might be interested in knowing more about ‘The Food Hospital’. This could be people who are living with a condition which affects their life, or people who have recently started to experience symptoms they wish to address.
Please don't hesitate in getting in touch: @betty.co.uk">edd.buckley@betty.co.uk

Hello 🙂
Personally for my acne i use 'blemishless kit', it's the best one ive come across so far!
Treat yourself at home and use natural facial mask to reduce dark spots on your face. I recommend you to use a facial mask that has Vitamin C. Vitamin C can lighten the dark area of our skin. Essenzza Health sells a natural facial mask that has Vitamin C and Argan oil. This mask will keep your face brighter and glowing.
Hi MMelly - not sure if you have noticed the dates on these posts - the OP was in 2006 and Lizzy added a post in 2010 - hopefully their skin issues have resolved by now!
