Hi guys

Not sure whether this should go in addiction or not, i have a really bad habit of biting the skin around my nails, i have done since i was around 15 but now its only when im nervous or stressed..

I also think its contributing to my nails being brittle and all though i need them relatively short for massage i cant grow them past the end of my finger without them splitting.

Can any one help please?

hi gemdiamond

there are some pieces of advice i can offer. if you have your hands in water several times a day (e.g washing dishes) then it's best to use gloves as people can be more susceptible to problmes in this way. one of the causes of this problem can also be poor nutrition. try to eat more of the good stuff including various vegetables such as cauliflower and lentils that can help produce healthy nails.

you can use a moisturiser to massage your fingertips. massaging wiill help improve circulation allowing nails to absorb nutrients. avoid practices such as tapping your nails on the desk or other hard surfaces as rough edges on your nails can also lead to nails becoming brittle.

hope this helps
