Hi there,
Can anyone help with this problem ?
I have a dreadful itchy scalp. I went to the chemist and they suggested polytar shampoo. I have used it about five times ( it really stinks !) but my scalp is still very itchy
Any advice much appreciated
Sweep x x

RE: itchy scalp

Hi

I also suffered from severe itchy flaky scalp and Seb Dermatitis for many years. I have tried all kinds of alternative medicine some worked for the short term but sadly not for the long term. I also tried numerous lotions and cold tar based shampoos on my doctors advice but again none of those worked and actually I think some of them my scalp worse.

A friend of mine recommended a site to me called [link= http://www.refreshedskin.com ]www.refreshedskin.com [/link] From here I downloaded their SD Program and ever since I followed the program my scalp is flake and itch free and my Seb Dermatitis has gone.

I hope you find this info useful.

Ann

RE: itchy scalp

My daughter suddenly developed a sort of cradle cap at two years of age but so bad hair coming away with it, having never had it as a baby and I tried all sorts.(it was a well known baby shampoo that triggered it!) In the end I went to bodyshop and bought their ginger anti-dandruff shampoo after discussing it with an assistant in there . It cleared up very quickly and we continue to use it., perhaps this would be worth a try.

Best wishes Sam x

RE: itchy scalp

I have a rare scalp condition which causes really itchy scalp and I have tried loads of stuff, only recently tho did I start putting aloe vera on my head, I have a plant of it, and it diod stop the itching and it feels a lot better tonight, I will use the plant for a while but I am definately getting some aloe vera shampoo and conditioner to see if that helps.

The other thing my hairdresser has said is that you should really only use organic or natural shampoos not shop brought as they can make it worse, means forking out a bit more but the more expensive ones last longer - nice one I have found is from MOP, and I get it in my hairdressers it is pear and avacardo and some other stuff, smells lovely and they do conditioneners as well.

With love

RE: itchy scalp

Very true...
Many commercial shampoos are alkaline, and however squeaky-clean they may leave your hair, they also strip off the acid mantle of the scalp, and the protective film of sebum on the hair-shafts; this leaves the scalp dry and your hair lifeless.

You can try the following natural remedy for dry itchy scalp...

- Add Tea Tree oil to your shampoo (there are Tea Tree oil shampoos on the market)

- And to balance out the alkaline commercial shampoos, you can add Cider Vinager to your rince water.

RE: itchy scalp

I have pretty awful hair thin and wispy.

I don't really suffer with itchy scalp but what I have been doing for the last I should say 4 months is washing my hair in conditioner only.

It has certainly improved the look of my hair and my scalp looks calmer.

This has quite a few advantages:

1.It is quicker as you only do the one application

2. It is cheaper as you only use the one product

3. It uses less water as you only rinse once saving time and money

RE: itchy scalp

Hi

I also suffer from seb derm. Thanks for the advice about the www.refreshedskin.com site. However it looks a bit too good to be true! Although I am at excited at the prospect of being able to find a natural cure! Can you tell me a bit more about the prog? Do they suggest diet changes and advise of actual creams that can be used as well? I have been using a steriod cream for the past few years which i'm really not happy about but the doctors are unable to suggest any alternatives.

Thanks
Nic x
