Hello all,
I'm looking for advice on suitable supplements for my mum. She has been suffering with **severely** cracked skin on her hands and feet. Doctors aren't sure what it is but have suggested it may be psoriasis, although I'm not so sure, as all descriptions of psoriasis I have read, don't describe what she has...
The various creams prescribed have not worked and in some instances have worsened the condition.
She had an allergy test which flagged up Methlylisothiazolinone, which apparently is a preservative used in many products so she has been avoiding such products.
The condition is extremely severe. Desperate to help her, I was thinking of giving her some supplements to try, to see if they help, but with her having a couple of other health issues, I don't want to give her something that could have an adverse effect.
The supplements I am considering are:
Methylsulphonylmethane (MSM)
Chlorella / wheatgrass
Flaxseed (Linseed)
In general, her blood pressure is a little on the high side but she is not on any medication.
She was diagnosed with osteoarthritis several years ago.
2 years ago a blood clot formed in her leg so she was on blood thinning medication for 6 months. She is not on any such medication now, but obviously potential blood clots are an ongoing concern.
I'd really appreciate any advice, particularly if the supplements I want to try, would be a no-no.
Also, if you have any suggestions for supplements that might help, I'd be ever so grateful.
Thank you,
Ella
Has anyone suggested a foot bath using a cup of apple cider vinegar in warm (not hot) water? This might soften the skin. You can use it as a poltice on hands. You could also try virgin coconut oil as an emollient - making sure that it's soaked in, or cotton socks/gloves are worn, to prevent slipping!
Has she been checked by a podiatrist?
Please don't take offence at this but my dog had really badly cracked pads and zinc supplements helped tremendously, Chelated Zinc, maybe research that?
My skin on my hands was cracking to the point of bleeding whenever I bent my fingers last year. I've since stopped eating McCoy's and other crisps and it's naturally gone away. Might be worthwhile reviewing what crap she's eating.
I would try adding oils from within. Maybe omega 3/6

I would try Gamma Linolenic Acids.
