I damaged a nail by catching it in a door - this was a month ago. Anyway had the nail punctured to release the pressure. Anyway, where the halfmoon normally is under the nail bed I have what now looks like 'paint' - what is this and is it anything to worry about?

The white moon as you call it is actually called the Lunula, this also determines the shape of your nail. This is where the cells are starting to die off, they are created in the matrix which is under theskin before this bit.
Ifyou havewhite spots on your nail this is due to trauma.This will grow out in time, and will take months unless you have actually scarred the nail bed.
