Hi
I am 25 weeks pregnant and have been getting real bad pain in my right hand buttock which is increasing every day. It has become so bad that I cant turn in bad without being in excrutiating pain:(. Im not too sure if it is Sciatica or Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP). Either way what treatments are available? Or will it reduce over time?
Thanks
Amba

Hi, I also suffered with this when I was pregnant with my first child. This was in the days of old and sadly I wasn't given any help or advice from my doctor. Some days I was hardly able to stand, sit or lie down without being in extreme pain. My doctor at the time just said the baby was lying awkwardly and pinching the sciatic nerve. Try and speak to the midwife, practice nurse or speak to a reflexologist, they do wonders with back pain. A good one will be fully aware of the problems with pregnancy and any contra-indications. Hope you get this sorted out as the last thing you want to remember about your pregnancy is the pain. It did ease off further into the pregnancy and I didn't get it at all with my second child. I'd be interested to know if it's a boy as mine was. Infact they both were!

Hi, Bowen Technique would be excellent for this.
Go well,

Hi
I too had really bad sciatica in my right side at the same time as you. Thankfully it only lasted a week but I found it difficult to even walk two steps due to the shooting pain down my bum/leg. The baby was putting pressure on the sciatica nerve.
I called the hospital and the midwife just suggested putting a hot water bottle on the area. I did this which relieved it a bit and also used some heat pads.
I know that some people suffer with it terribly and it can last all pregnancy. Have you thought about having a massage?
Good luck - I hope he/she moves quickly.

I too had sciatic pain for both my pregnancies, although luckily it lasted only 2 weeks each time. If I had known then what I know now, I would probably have visited an osteopath. The treatment is very gentle and effective. Osteopaths are regulated by law (they can only call themselves an osteopath if they are properly qualified). Of course, you could accuse me of bias as I am an osteopath! But seriously, osteopathic treatment is my suggestion.:)
