Whenever I eat organic dark chocolate my teeth/gums start to ache. anyone else have this problem, and is there anything I can do to stop it? (aside from not eating it)

No problems for me either. Don't know what to suggest. The option suggested wouldn't be one for me I'm not sure how I'd cope without dark chocolate.

I don't have that problem with chocolate... though recently someone sent me [DLMURL="http://people.umass.edu/ifranzen/chocolate.html"]chocolates as a birthday gift[/DLMURL] through an online chocolate store (so weird! they actually exist!!), and it wasn't dark, it was a selection of milk and white... and obviously dark is a lot healthier, but then I decided since it was my birthday I was going to try, and I got a headache and a toothache... I have no problems with dark chocolate though..

Dark Chocolate

Hi there,

Your teeth - an inorganic dead matter cannot feel pain.. However, Coco butter in choclate coates the teeth, whenever we eat them..now and again when sudden surge of dissolved sugar comes in to contact with the gap between your teeth and the gum area where your nerve endings are exposed..you sense Pain..

It is a neurological experience ..

A chemical called norephinephrine is the thing that causes headache or migraine in some us .... Coco especially high in dark chocolate stimulates our brain to produce this !

It may be this that you were experiencing Danaeh !

With warm wishes

Vathani

One of the benefits of dark chocolate is that it can help to promote circulation to the gums. Maybe you were experiencing a side effect from that.

I dissolve a LOT of salt in a cup of warm water and gargle with it. You have to be careful it doesn't go down your throat or you can choke. It always works with toothache.

The other thing is to se aloe vera toothpaste, a very soft toothbrush, try to avoid the bit that hurts and definitely don't use mouthwash - some of them have a lot of alcohol in them.

Hope some of that helps!

Re:

I never had that kind of problem. There are many causes of tooth related problem. The most common include genetics, aging, consumption of staining substances (smoking, coffee, tea, and colas), tetracycline (antibiotic) staining, excessive fluoride, and old fillings.
