Hello All,
I have just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and although i have recently seen my doctor i am Not taking any form of medication just yet. I have asked my doctor to let me try alternative ways first:) I have gone away and done alot more research but i feel alittle over whelmed with all the information that is out there. The thyroid is such a complex system:( i feel taking one tablet to replace what is lacking isnt really the way forward for me....(well not just yet)
I have a few questions i would like to ask :-
1) Can we get armour thyroid in the uk and if so can the doctors prescribe it?
2) If you go on thyxoine for a short while....can you come of the drug if things are not improving?
3) Hair strand tests? Has anyone use this method to see what vitamins and minerals or toxins might be in ones system.?
4) Homeopathic remendies....is it possible to see a homeopath on the NHS for thyroid problems.?
5) TH207 has anyone used this to support there thyroid problem.(A combination of herbs, nutrients and enzymes to help nourish the thyroid gland.)
I am in the process of reading Your Thyroid and how to keep healthy by Dr Durrant-peatfield.
There is alot of information about bush and Dr Bach flower remendies used to help thyroid problems along with diet and taking the right vitamins.
Would love to hear from anyone who has managed to find an alternative route to balance their under active thryroid problem.

hello hallos.... you are so right .its so damn complex, one thing connects to another...which is why we have so much trouble with endos sorting us out, its as if every hormone/organ/ structure/ etc in our bodies should be treated as compartmentalised!!! instead of it working in synergy!!!! i know that your doctor CAN prescribe it for you on a 'green paper' but only if you are allergic to the synthetic thyroxine, other than that you would have to order it yourself from america. the rest of your questions i do not know, i have research ed thyroid /adrenals/ etc for years as i have all the symptoms of low adrenals and low thyroid and low female and male hormones except androstenedione, i have polycystic ovaries which cause too much andros, but to be honest now i am so sick of it all i have felt so unwell so many years , i just feel like giving up, nhs let you down . it will be interesting to know the answers to your questions and caroline N is very knowledgeable... hugs to you . xx:(
Hello Curtains,
Thankyou for your reply:) Dont give up...im sure you will find your answer soon. I was told over six years ago that i had chronic fatigue after i had a mystery illness by a private consultant....i told him i havent got time for chronic fatigue and that i was a single parent with three children:D. Time has gone by and yes my life was been hard with the tiredness, and depression etc...but over the years i have got more wiser and more incontrol of my health and healing. I have had light bulb moments were i thought i had candida and went on strict diet but still that didnt seem to help with how i was feeling. I have suffered from a frozen shoulder for over a year and tried everything alternative aswell as modern medicine to shift it....but nothing did....In the end i really feel its a matter of time or until we are ready to get to the bottom of our problems....i dont feel cheated for how my life has been just thankful im here living in the moment and getting closer to understand how complex we and our bodies are:):):):):):)
Caroline N is spot on has been a great help to me thankyou...

Not sure haven't looked into that one myself.
2) If you go on thyxoine for a short while....can you come of the drug if things are not improving?
Thyroxine is a supplement, not a drug (i.e. it just replaces what's missing, like taking a vitamin tablet, unlike drugs that alter the way the body works), so stopping taking it should only revert you back to your lower levels, though of course it's good to discuss this with your doctor.
3) Hair strand tests? Has anyone use this method to see what vitamins and minerals or toxins might be in ones system.?
You assume I've got clean hair. 😀 Seriously, not thought about doing that, will have a look into it myself.
4) Homeopathic remendies....is it possible to see a homeopath on the NHS for thyroid problems.?
I have a homeopath friend who I've been considering going to. Not sure if you will be able to get one on the NHS, and it may be a local postcode lottery one. Ask your doctor. 😉
5) TH207 has anyone used this to support there thyroid problem.(A combination of herbs, nutrients and enzymes to help nourish the thyroid gland.)
Not come across that one either (wow, you've been doing your research). I have heard that Iodine tablets are meant to be beneficial, but need to look at the ins and outs of that myself.

I think I'm at the same stage as you, just starting to look into it and see what's what and try and discern what are valid things from the mundane or insane... 😀

Hello Giles,
Thankyou for your reply:)
You will see from other posts on this matter it sometimes isnt a case of taking the tablet to replace what is missing...there are all sorts of other things to consider:
If you havent got the right vitamins or minerals within your body then the conversion can be stopped or reduced...hence showing a thyroid problem.
Certain products that we have no control over and consume can also effect the thyroid function........Fluoride..... Not forgetting drugs that are prescribed ...prozac, Diazepam, Beta blockers,Lithium and Steroids:eek::eek:
There is a link between underactive thyroid and adrenal problems and therefore if the adrenal problems are sorted first...then hopefully the thyroid probelms will come back into balance.
Goitrogenic Foods" brussel sprouts, rutabaga, turnips, cauliflower, cabbage and kale almonds, peanuts and walnuts sweet corn, sorghum and millet soya this combined with a high fibre diet causes too much thyroid hormone and iodine to be excreted from the body .....so if you are having these..make sure they are eaten cooked not raw.
Too much iodine....can cause all sorts of problems aswell...
Theres is alot of info on this site which may help others :-

As i have stated...Thyroid problems are very complex and need a lot of time and research ..to find the best option for each persons needs.

I managed to heal my own thyroid issue, together with HPA-axis problem (Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal) using flower essences. I dowsed the relevant ingredients and took the blend for around 4 months as well as taking Sea Kelp.
It is more a case of knowing where to look, and introducing the relevant vibration to affect a change.

Wow Rosi 1, thankyou for your reply and that is amazing you healed yourself through just using the flower essences and sea kelp. Well done you.:)I have got a good range of Bach flower essences and i was taking them for a while, but i stopped as i thought they were making my mood more low:cool:.
So can i ask was it a case of you were guided to use the flower essence or had you found information that stated they can help with thyroid problems?
Did you blood results turn back to normal and did you start to see the improvements and feel well after 4 months?
Would love to hear your story in more detail.

Hi Hallos, I have been self-healing for over 12 years, and intuitively am led to any imbalances within my body. So, I don't go to the doctor at all, since 1999 anyway. I use flower and gem essences for everything, they are a complete healing system.
When I approach any health issue, I dowse the relevant vibrations to affect a change, sometimes this requires working for many months on different systems in the body because often when one part of the body is out of balance, the issues are in more than one system in the body. For example, to heal the lack of digestive enzymes, I made an essence for the pancreas, then a blend for the vagus nerve, the biggest nerve in the body which feeds into the pancreas. I think I took the blends for 5 months, and my digestive enzymes are back to normal.
Thyroid issues are generally linked to self-esteem issues. The throat is the centre for self-worth and self-esteem issues, so something to bare in mind.
Under active thyroid - alternative solutions
Hi Hallos,
Taking into account all of your symptoms, it is possible that you have either Epstein Barr or Chronic Lyme Disease. For your sake I sincerely hope not as it's a long process to overcome either disease.
I get all the latest information from a scientist friend who specialises in this subject. She is internationally connected with everyone researching this very complex disease plus the many opportunist and co-infections.
Many patients with chronic Lyme symptoms are diagnosed with ME; CFS; Fybromyalgia; MS, Parkinsons; various forms of Arthritis and many other disease which affect the nerves, joints and heart. Hypothyroidism along with many other symptoms is common in Chronic Lyme Disease.
Cpnhelp.org is a very informative site. It is huge & takes weeks/months to find your way round, but well worth it if you do have any of the infections they deal with. There is a lot of misinformation on the subject, so it is important to go to websites with the accurate facts. A good place to start is ipetitions.com/petition/uklymepetitions where there are several useful links.
It is extremely difficult to get an accurate diagnosisof Late Stage/Chronic Lyme Disease within the NHS.
Dr Sarah Myhill has great success in treating various fatiguing illnesses.
If you do have to go the standard route with thyroid replacement it's worth knowing that it can take the body up to 3 years to fully acclimatise to Thyroxine. I know because this happened to me. Some of us do not convert it from T4 [ thyroxine] into the usable form T3 [Liothyronine is the prescription name]. I have to take both forms. T4 takes up to 2 weeks to get into your system, but T3 is effective within 2 hours [ I take it twice a day]
If you don't feel a lot better on Thyroxine then you will need to see an Endochrine Consultant as GPs do not prescribe T3. In my experience most GPs have little understanding of thyroid problems.
I wish you luck in your search for wellness.
Hi IrmaJ,
Perhaps I'm missing something but cpnhelp.org just seems to be a site related to Chlamydia and the ipetitions link tries to take you to a non-existent petition (incidently, petitions are not permitted on the Healthypages forums).
Are you sure you posted the correct links? I can't see how they relate to Thyroid issues.
All Love and Reiki Hugs

Thankyou for your reply and very interesting information. Very strange you mention Lymes disease...and this is something that i was tested for many moons ago and came back all ok. Im not 100% sure what is going on with me but i am loving the research im doing about it all:)
I didnt know it can take up to three years for the Thyroxine to work :eek: and ive been learning about the T3 in the book ive been reading. I also didnt realise that the doctors cant request the T3 prescription. So how does one go about requesting a T3 blood test if uve only just been told uve got an under active thyroid?...
I can also understand why doctors have little experience with thyroid problems ...as like i keep saying this is a massive and complex subject:)

Rachel
