After a routine blood test for something entirely different I found out I have underactive thyroid. The only symptoms I had really had were tiredness and weight gain which I had thought were just part of being a mum! I've been taking 25mcg of Levothyroxine daily now for 2 weeks and feel constantly shattered, headachey and like my brain doesn't work - I have to really think about everything I am doing or saying and get really confused. I had imagined I would start to feel better but fell worse - is it a case of getting worse before you get better with this stuff??

RE: Hypothyroid Treatment

Coconut oil is supposed to be very beneficial for the thyroid function. Have a look at http://coconutdiet.com - there's a link at the side specificalyy about thyroid health.
I'm not sure whether some of your symptoms could be side effects of the medication - do check with your GP - make a list so you don't forget to tell him the whole picture!!:)
From a simple, complementary point of view - Your initial symptoms could be ascociated with blood sugar highs and lows - careful cbout eating proccessed foods - they cause the highs and lows. You need to eat good foods (as near to there origional growing state as poss!) frequently to keep a stable blood sugar and avoid those tired lows. Also make sure you're drinking PLENTY of water - dehydration can be another reason why people feel fatigued.
There's plenty of other angles to aproach this but this is a good place to start - if things don't improve then look into nutritional therapy etc. etc.

RE: Hypothyroid Treatment

It's a case of getting the dosage right. I am on 150mg per day and have been on and off for the last 22 years. You will start to feel absolutely fine when they get the dosage right. Tell your Doctor you still feel awful and he will probably get another blood test done after about a month or so.
