Hi all
I wonder if anyone knows how to successfully treat a trapped nerve.
A client of mine was treated for a double by pass a year ago and 3 months ago went to his doctor over trapped nerve symptoms in left arm, - tingling in fingers, loss of power in fingers, shooting pains to name a few. Whilst waiting for the doctors referral he came to me (he is still waiting).
He also has a build up under his arm which i am concerned over. I have given him general swedish on local muscle area and general back acupoints but don't know of acupoints for trapped nerve in particular. His feedback has been positive and has reported lessoning of symptoms but I would like to try something more specific. Is there anything within acupressure/reflexology known to be good for this.
Also has anyone got an acupressure 'bible' they could recommend as I never actually acquired one, only used teachers notes and library books, and now that there are a multitude to chose from I am quite lost.
Grateful for all titbits, Nicky

RE: trapped nerve remedy?
Hi Nicky,
are the symptoms constant? If so there is a possibility of actual nerve damage, and if this is the case, acupressure wont really work.
If the trapped nerve is caused by compression from tight muscle, then massage should help.
If the symptoms are constant, and your client is waiting for referral, then you should refer him to either a physiotherapist or osteopath, and they may be able to speed things up.
RE: trapped nerve remedy?
The proverbial trapped nerve is the sort of problem that osteopaths deal with every day. As sports therapy points out - if it's a soft tissue problem, then massage may help.
Quite often the problem is in the spine and from what you say they may well have a vertebral disc injury in the base of the neck, so be careful.
Andrew.
