Hi everyone,
I know there have already been some threads on foot pain - but it seems the topicshave mainlyfocused onplantar Fascitis and heel spurs.
Well, I have pain in the ball of my foot - mostly in the region under my big toe. It seems no matter how sensible my choice of shoe (I even have special postural shoes!) I feel the grinding of my foot against the ground, and sometimes it even feels like I've pulled a ligament and cannot walk. I'm generally very oversensitive there.
My mum is also a sufferer of problems in this region - her problem is she feels hard lumps, like bits of bone coming to the surface. I wonder if the same will happen to me. She is also one of my case studies for my reflexology course, and I'd very much like to have some clue as what her condition may be. (She's yet to see a doctor).
Does anyone know what my problem could be, or that of my mum's? I've had a look at several sites but cannot seem to identify which condition/s this may be.
If anyone has any other useful chiropody/podiatry sites they can share that would be a real help too!
Thanks to all of you!

RE: Help! Pain in ball of foot
Dear Madam,
It does seem to me that you may have a condition know as
Metatarsalgia. Usually the cause of Metatarsalgia is Morton Neuroma, which can occur on the nerve, thus causing the pain you experience. It can be heredatory as it is a malformation of the bones of the foot, which can be passed on from generation to generation. It is usually found more in women than in men.
To alleviate the pain for now try using warm foot baths with Epsom Salts, followed with a gentle massage with an analgestic balm.
Long term it would be beneficial for you to see a Podiatrist / Chiropodist who would be able to xray and perscribe orthotics.
Best Wishes
