Hi hope someone can help with a dilema I have.
I have been asked to give an aromatherapy massage to a lady in her late 50's who has just had heart surgery(4 months ago). She has been having massages in India. Unfortunatley this is all I know at the moment.
Would it be ok to do legs arms and face. avoiding the back and thoracic area?
Any suggestions would be great as soon as poss as I need to let them know today!!!!!
RE: massage after surgery.
personally, if she has been given clearance from the hospital and she is stable, i'd go ahead. just be extra careful with what oils to use and dont massage directly over scar tissue (probably wouldnt anyway).
use caution and see how it goes.
RE: massage after surgery.
Hi
It really depends on what sort of operation she has had whether open heart or keyhole and also what for....most people who do massages in india as far as i am aware are much more vigorous and deeper than a lot received here!
Interesting point about the scar tissue Rosie, as to why to avoid it? manipulation of the tissue often prevents adhesions and is often recommended after some surgeries...

RE: massage after surgery.
hi Rosie and Tigerbee
thanks for your replies. I have just come back from giving this lady a massage. All went well. I used lavender oil and used fairly gentle pressure as she bruises easily. Avoided sight of op as it was still tender...10 months down the line. But am pleased I did it wasn't scary after all. She is on warfarin so avoided using Grapefruit. Thanks again
