I'm 32 years old, am a size 8/10, exercise at the gym once a week and bike a couples of miles to and from work each day. So I'm reasonably fit.

I do have a resting heart rate of around 100 bpm. I was talking to a friend at the weekend and they seem to think I may have a problem and should go to the doctors.

What problems could a high resting heart rate cause me?

RE: High resting heart rate

An update on this...

I went to the doctors and he agreed that the rate is high. He thought I might have an over active thyroid and sent me for a blood test and also an ecg.

I never heard anything back from the GP - I phoned the surgery and they told me if I had not heard anything then the results must be negative.

I probably should go back to the doctors but as I feel OK, part of me doesn't see the need.

RE: High resting heart rate

It would be worth going back to see your gp, just to put your mind at rest that it isnt caused by anything medical. I hope everything goes ok!

Too much caffeine can raise your heart rate quite a lot, and food intolerances can also increase your heart rate. Or it could be stress related? You could try seeing a nutritional therapist or have some form of relaxation therapy maybe?

RE: High resting heart rate

I have a high resting heart rate too and am built as if I have an under active thyroid, but tests prove negative.

If you feel fit, then maybe it's just the way we are wired 😀 We're not all 'average' after all 😉

RE: High resting heart rate

I had a high resting heart rate when I was a teenager and my doctor sent me to an osteopath. Turned out I had a few bits and pieces out of place as a result of damage done during delivery years before!
A few tweaks and 20 minutes later and everything was sorted. Been fine ever since.

RE: High resting heart rate

Normal resting HR is 60-100. I wouldn't worry about your HR unless it jumps around and you have pains or feeling weak. As to your TSH I wouldn't worry about that either being that you are maintaining your weight. Those with thyroid problems gain/lose weight without dieting/over-eating. <-------I'm sure you already know all of that. Just trying to reassure you. Any other symptoms that you left out that you are concerned about? Sound healthy to me.

RE: High resting heart rate

I never went back to the doctor because to be honest, i feel fine and don't have any other symptoms.

I think you are right - it's just they way I'm wired.

help me with providing some helpful information?

My sister’s blood pressure runs on the lower end. Normal for her is 110/70. She's at present in the hospital and having test 6 days. Today doctors are puzzled at her blood pressure drops when she sits stands and walks or in motion it is around 90/60 heart rate going down to about 35 while sleeping 2 times in 6 days. Would you help me with providing some helpful information?

According to that you are borderline hypertensive Rosi.
