Hello I am new to this forum hope everyone is well.
I have recently been diagnosed with high BP ( initial readings were 193/110 though latterly 160/100 ) and have been put on medication by my GP ( Lisiniprol 10 mgs daily ). I have only just started the meds so too early to tell if they will work for me. I was wondering what else I could do to help lower it without recourse to meds. Has anyone here heard of adding a pinch of salt to water and drinking quite a lot of it daily? It sort of conflicts with all I have ever read about lowering the amounts of salt in your diet to achieve benefits regards B.P.
hi Norvegicus
No I've not heard of the salt water treatment - sounds like someone got hold of the wrong end of the "like cures like" argument!
You can lower your BP by meditation, biofeedback and autogenic training techniques. There's a book called "Autogenic Training" by Dr Kai Kermani, and I can recommend it personally: AT has helped me overcome many difficulties in the past.
Relaxation is a Good Thing where BP is concerned. Suggest you explore relaxation techniques and see what works for you.
Take care
Hi and welcome to the forum,
I wouldn't subscribe to the salt water treatment - dietary recommendations are keeping salt to the minimum.
Single nostril breathing is excellent (not deep breathing tho) - very calming. See the following link for guidance on what to do [DLMURL] http://www.yoga.net.au/single_nostril_breathing [/DLMURL]. Linked with meditation, regular exercise, and a good diet low in sugar and fat, with plenty of vegetables should help.

Reducing stress is a major help in lowering blood pressure although that's sometimes easier said than done! Have you thought about meditation?
It can help to reduce stress and is one of the most effective techniques available for gaining deep relaxation, which will help promote physical as well as mental well-being.
I really hope that this helps as I believe it could be beneficial for you. Good luck.
Try to be aware of what things cause you to feel tension or stress. Then you can take action to relax more in those situations. Anything that is going to help you feel more relaxed generally will be good. Often it can be a mental thing, we all tend to allow ourselves to get worked up over certain things, although appreciate improving this can be easier said then done with ingrained habits.
I've also heard that acupuncture can assist, but I'm no expert in this area, so someone else may be able to comment.

Big amounts of salt should raise blood pressure, on the other hand, salt manifests Water principle in the body, strange as it may seem.
Similar thing is putting a pinch of salt on the tip of tongue and swallow salted saliva until done, both are to generate "salty feeling" which harmonizes Water-Fire relations in the body = cause of high blood pressure.
Meditation, breathing etc help when the source is mostly psychological, and may presumably do little if the problem is inherited and has finally
arised.
There's advanced and simpler version of acupuncture = Su-jok, I recently did "on the run" simplest thing = seed therapy without any check-up, for one lady of 50+, and she felt better right in 5 minutes.
Another case I'm working on - a 19 year old, badly striken by anaemia
blood production stopped, currently on blood transfusions
etc.
5 days of seed therapy and most of accompanying things like capillars destruction, massive petechiae, stomach disorders, yellowish face colour, angina with high temperature, and quite losing faith in recovery, have gone.
