Yogi,
I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing more pain than previous to op. What must make it harder is that we pin our hopes on this operation giving us our lives back again. I do hope you get a good explanation this week and that this is only a temporary setback.

Brillo,
It would be worth phoning the consultants secretary and explaining your concerns around going to the toilet and you increase in pain. Also let them know that you would be happy to take a cancellation appointment at short notice ( NHS doesn't like empty appointment slots).
I do hope you feel an improvement soon both in physical and emotional health!
I'm not sure that those who have never suffered significant back pain have any real understanding as to how restrictive all areas of life become, and how this impacts on us emotionally.

I'm having ups and down with my sciatica but at the moment it is better than pre op, my back is very stiff/fragile. The best part for me is that I'm only waking a couple of time a night now, I can always cope better with everything including pain when I'm not tired.

My thoughts are with you both and a hope an improvement begins soon.

Hey Emlou

Sounds like you are making a slow but decent recovery, heres hoping for it to continue!

As for me, tried ringing the consultants secretary and got batted away with ring outpatients which i did and i did get the appointment brought forward. I then emailed the consultant directly to his personal email which i found on his private surgery website. He replied with, ill contact my secretary and ask her to arrange. As it stands im due for MRI Mar 27 and appt with him Apr 19. As for me, my pain is not as severe currently, its at its worse only in the mornings on leaving bed but as the meds kick in and i exercise it it begins to ease. Gonna try again for a return to work later this week but not 100% if it'll be successful but i need money and i need it fast! My job allows me to earn quickly too so its almost hard to say no if i feel i can do it but time will tell.

Wish you continued recovery and keep us posted!

Regards

Rob

Hi yogi,
I am so sorry to hear your same disc has prolapsed again! I know we were told this may happen but it's unbelievable that this has occurred so soon. I do hope you are soon sorted and on the road to recovery.
Take care and I hope you're not feeling too down.

Hi all,
I have finally had my dressing off thank goodness, have a nice red square where it has been!! I've always had an allergy to the old fashioned pink type of Elastoplast but never to post surgery dressings ( which I've had a number of!). Not sure whether this reaction is because my bodies defences are low or not?
Managing longer walks now with less sciatica ( strangely getting some in right buttock as well, where all problems were left sided pre op), still get a 'wobbly left leg' after walks. Think this may be due to loss of strength and feeling I had pre op.
I'm going to sit for my first meal tonight fingers crossed it won't be too uncomfortable.

Brillo, pleased to hear you've managed a shift back at work, I'll keep my fingers crossed that your improvement continues.

Yogi, I do hope you are feeling better.

Hi yogi,
I do hope Tuesdays operation is successful and you can you begin your recovery and get home to see your children. I know how hard it is too be separated from them, I had a long stay in hospital when mine were very young ( one only 6weeks old). Take care and try and keep your spirits up.

Think I've done too much today went for a walk including a hill , but as there is nowhere very flat nearby it's difficult to increase distance without including an incline. It's even a steep incline to get up my driveway!! Back very tender especially on right side with sciatica down my left leg almost to pre op level. Doesn't seem right to moan when yogi is suffering so much, so will go and lie down and ice.

Yogi I am so sorry and wish you relief like yesterday!

I have to ask though , and I may have missed this, but did they figure out why you need the op in the first place, what caused the problem not what the problem is? I mean if you have relapsed so soon, why, what did you do, what else is causing it. Is it lifestyle, posture, other muscles or lack of, it is imperative they look into why so they can figure out a permanent way to solve it.

sending you healing thoughts xxx
