Hello,
I have been suffering a stiff aching numbness in upper back for quite some time now. I feel it is becoming a chronic problem and its really starting to get me down and i feel im suffering now from day to day. I can't seem to do any kind of bending down and picking up without it kicking off... bizarrely it even kicks off when Im doing the dishes. I have a toddler so I'm always up and down with him putting his clothes on seem to be a problem. I feel my back problem are only since my son was born. I am a massage therapist and TBH I am a bit embarrassed that I have to post this at all but I am starting to worry about this affecting my work although its not too bad during giving a massage its the carrying the massage couch in and out of peoples houses and the car which is awkward triggers it off.
symtoms are lingering dull ache and tension in my rhomboids, numbness/tingling sensation in the same area. numbness been on and off for 2 years. specific clicking popping sound in one vertebrae in the thoracic region cant really pin point it. sciatic pain on right side gluts only when getting up from lying on my back on the floor (not sure if this is linked)
I also have clicky left shoulder joint when its rotated with my arms out ( again not sure if its linked) knots popping and cracking all over the upper back and trapezius
The numbness and tingling spell trapped nerves to me but i dont have any shooting pains or warmth.
Can anyone advise me where to go for help as I dont have the funds to experiment with treatments.
thanks
Karen
Hi Karen,
IMHO you have acute muscular tension that massage would help enormously. The way to have cheap massage is to find schools and offer yourself as a case study or exam body. Just google for your local training schools and you should be able to get some help at a reduced price or even free.
Best of luck. Sue
Also you can try the Student and Training Forum here on HP and put out a request to be a case study.
Cheers, Sue
hi there
you sound as if you really could do with some TLC. Have you thought about trying different therapies by offering therapy swaps in your area.
I would strongly recommend you try Bowen and/or Emmett technique to help you with your back. it is very gentle and yet has great results
Best wishes
JJ
Dear Karen
I believe that it is the mind that creates the illness in the body based on the beliefs in the subconsious mind. It seems that your body might be creating the pain because you feel you are bending over backwards to help others. To change this you could do affirmations such as
I am supported by my family
I am assisted in all areas of my life
The Universe supports me
I allow others to help me.
Blessings for a speedy recovery
With love

Hi there, are these two the same thing, I have never heard of the Emmett technnique.
Thankyou for your replies. I am definately in need of some tlc for sure. I do feel like I am the glue that holds everything together, from home to work to relationships and sometimes feel very put upon taken for granted and feel I have to ask in order to be treated. There's a lot of things going on in my life at the moment so it is interesting that you should suggest and psychological cause, Jill; I will certainly try some of these affirmations. I have also managed to find a massage swap in my area. We have agreed on a meeting next week. She also does EFT I'm guessing this would be useful too. Though from What I read its very gentle tapping. I know this IS psycholigical but I always feel like if the massage isnt firm and thorough then its not doing me any good (personally) I prefer a deep tissue massage but it would interesting to see how EFT and Bowen would fair.

Sorry I didn't reply to your post - I know that it is many months since your question as to whether Bowen and Emmett are the same thing.
They are similar and work well together but they are not the same.
I would point you to our new UK emmett site on
http://www.emmett-technique.co.uk/
and to the Bowen site
http://www.bowen-technique.co.uk/
Sorry again for not answering sooner
Cheers
