Hello all,
Like most of you I've been suffering with chronic pain for a long time. Over 3 years ago I prolapsed L34 and L4/5.
I've been coping and since June 2007 I've had no sensation in my left leg, which to be honest was fine as all the sciatic pain and nerve pain stopped and I couldn't feel a thing.
Then I woke up sunday with tremendous cramp in my left leg and the sensation has come back (great) but I am in a lot of pain.
The pain is in both my left and right calf. It is increasingly difficult to walk and if i've been still for an extended period of time I really really struggle.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know how long this will last? Will it settle down and be pain free again?
any idea or advise so I know I'm not alone is much appreciated. I understand that chronic pain and nerve damage behaves irrationally and that things like this happen without reason - I've had by CBT course and I expect to have good days and bad days, it is just this change of symptoms with muscular pain, lack of mobility, exhaustion and intermittent shooting and stabbing pain in my left foot.
Thanks
Faye

Hi,
I have had leg pain for about 7 months now. In Feb it was getting better and i had hardly any pain, just took pain killers at night as it was a bit painful after staying in the same place for 7-8 hours. In March my left leg went into a massive cramp and a massive amount of pain. It started to get better after about 4 weeks but then my right leg did the same and i could hardly walk. ever since then i have been on the floor and just pottering about the house with loads of pain in my lower legs and in my hamstrings also my left foot is numb. The pain is not as bad as it used to be if i stay still but as soon as i start to move or stand still/sit for a long time the pain is just too much. I also have got problems with urinating so i am having to have an operation on wednesday.
I think the pain will go after a while but to know how long that will be god knows. I think its a good idea to see someone about getting a massage and treatment as your legs will just get tighter and tighter you need to loosen off your legs. Also you need to get an MRI to see whats going on in your back. The NHS hardly did anything for me until they saw my MRI and then they said i need an operation ASAP. Its ok saying i will work through it and ride the pain out until it goes away but you don't know what damage is being done.
At the end of the day you only get one body and one life. I am 33 and i want to be out of this pain and get back to work and have a normal life. You need to get treatment and you need to know whats wrong in your back.

Acupuncture may help with the pain and numbness
Hi
Have you tried having Acupuncture treatment for the pain and numbness on your leg. There have been some good results with Acupuncture treatment, as research suggests.
Hope this helps
thank you both.
i've had extensive physio and i've had 3 MRIs in teh past, so know my pain well, it was just the change in symptoms that concerned me.
I've had acupuncture, but my legs kept rejecting the needles! will try again though - thanks
Olli- I feel for you and hope your operation goes well.
