This is the first time I've used a forum like this so I'm hoping someone might be able to offer me a bit of advice.

I took up running more seriouslyabout 2 years ago and got very in to it but unfortunatley was hit by an injury after 1 year.

The injury materialised as a hamstring injury in which I experienced a snapping sensation behind one of my knees. This problemhad a knock on effect onthe inner side of the knee itself which eventually had restricted movement and preventedrunning![&o]

I immediatley went to see a Physio and was diagnosed with a ham string injury. However, some months into treatment my sacrum began to hurt which I eventually had to see a Chiropractor for.

The Chiro has had some success in treating the back pain and the "snapping" sensation behind the knee dissapeared for a period. However, I have recently started to run againbut the problem returned within 3 weeks of my first few plods.

So I'm now ayear down the line since this problem first emerged. I have a very painful sacrum sitting and laying down is now very uncomfortable and my running has gone out of the window again. My Chiro can't seem to diagnose this problem and I've asked him to arrange X-rays for me in the hope that might tell me what's going on.

If anyone can offer any advice to my epic, you are very very welcome! To put it bluntly this is literally becoming a real pain in the you know what!:)

RE: Painful Sacrum -

Do you have a local therapist practising the Bowen Technique?
This technique is used very successfully in knee and sacrum problems as well as a range of other problems. See the Bowen technique forum on this site or bowtech.com for more detailed information.

Hi catbow, where are you from?
If I was you I would see a sports therpist as opposed to a Physio, (personal opinion) and think about things like
Is your running shoe of the correct design for your gait, see a specialist shoe fitter from a running shop.
What factors ease the discomfort, or make it worse?
If you pm me with full dtails, I will see if I can see a pattern in your problem.
A sports therapist will have more expertise in your recreational lifestlye as opposed to the functional side of things, depending where you are I could put you in touch with someone. It is important to refrain from training at present until problem is identified, on the limited info you provide there are too many variables to suggest much in the vway of advice.
Did your treatments include any form of massage, muscle testing or postural analysis.
Email me directly and i'll see what I can do, from an exercise rehab point of view.

RE: Painful Sacrum -

Hi biggaz, I'm in West London and have seen a small olympic size team of physiotherapists, sports masseur (not sure that he was an actual sportstherapist) and chiropractors. I bought my trainers from aspecialist running shop recommended through the running club I was a member of. Theydidn't do gait analysis but they were were able to check my feet and suggest a good pair of neutral trainers.

You're right about the Physio's, I found the sports therapist/masseuse much better for actually getting stuck in and massaging. He didsome postural analysisbut didn't see this as an issue. He thought the issue was in a muscle within my hip and did get me back up and running for a short time but my back pain became very bad andI stopped seeing him in favour of a chiropractor and was too worried about aggravating my back to continue running.

The chiro has been good at relieving the back pain but hasn'tbeen able to diagnose the problem. I had Orthotics recommended to me after my feet were suggested as the possible culprits for all of my aches, pains, cracks and twangs but after bedding them in i've been running with them for about 3/4 weeks and felt the dreaded snap/twang behind my knee. My back now is really very painful again and my knee won't allow me to run. Bet you wished you'd never asked now!!!:D
