Hello,
Just thought I would tell my story. I'd been struggling with lower back problems for about five years but always went away after a few days so never did anything about it. However last June while playing football I did it again but played on till the end. This time the pain referred down my right leg which I'd not had before! Anyway went to physio (first time) and was diagnosed with a bulge in L5/S1. After a week it wasn't getting better so got an MRI and confirmed I'd herninated my L5/S1 and bulge in my L4/L5. I started reading up on various forums and started to think it would never get better!
I appreciate everybody's case is different and some may never fully recover and need injections and surgery.
11 months on I still have numbness in the sole of my right foot and I can't run without doing something to my right calf. The first six months I could only walk for exercise, but as time passes it got better (9 out of 10 cases I believe) and started spin classes in jan 12 and completed my first ever sprint triathlon a few weeks after. I then booked up to complete the 2 week Everest Base Camp Trek in May, which was quality.
However I'm still not able to play footy or golf to a level before I did my back, but by refining your goals you can overcome these problems and still get the best out of life. My back will probably never be 100% again, but doesn't mean you give up, just need to find a different way to overcome the annoyance and carry on :):)
Hope y sorry helps, cheers mick
Welcome 🙂
How wonderful to go on an Everest trip, I would love to! Your story sounds painful but positive. Congratulations. You must have more tips to share though? Did you rest, take any meds what?
