Hi Stephen
Yes a good book - full of useful information about referred pain. I tend to use gentler methods of treatment [Bowen and Emmett] but still find it a really good reference text.
Just a quick question - has anyone bought the Frozen shoulder book - is it worth buying as well as the general self help book - or is it just a repeat of what's in the main book????
Cheers
Judith
Hi Judith glad to see I'm not on my own as a therapist looking into the woes of many a back pain sufferer. I haven't as yet purchased the book you mention but again its getting good reviews ! It doesn't cost much at all so will def add it on to my next book purchases.

I went off to that link and searched and researched it... my physio is using that trigger point method, very painful and I am in two minds about it 🙁
Hi Cascara,
1/ At no point during treatment should you report a pressure score of 8 out of 10 as being exceeded. Number 8 representing the point when discomfort starts to become painfull. This empowers you as the client in controlling the amount of pressure used ! This is teamwork between you and your therapist not the application force whatever is being felt!.
2/ The target triggerpoint should be at first massaged gently to stimulate the release of your natural pain killer then progressively more firmley, prior to the techniques use.
3/ Some soreness after treatment may be experienced for 1 or 2 days. The soreness should feel like a good "healing" soreness. If the soreness "bites" causing pain the area should be cooled/iced (duration depends on the size of area being treated). If you suffered this, tell the therapist at your next session what happened and work to a 6 out 10, maybe leave longer between sessions?
IMHO this can be a highly effective technique for chronic problems. Its real success however, does depend preparation, accuracy and patience = slow delivery. What appears as a relitively simple technique does require alot of care.

Hiya Cassie!!
I'm sorry to hear about your painful experience Cassie.
Apart from that, how are bearing up at present? I find you well I hope?
Kindest thoughts ![]()
SPINELF
HI,
You know I cancelled my last physio appt because of the pain that was caused during the last session, it wrecked me for a good week! Thanks for your kind thoughts though. I will research it more. But perhaps I am better off doing it myself? Have you see the 'torture devices' Thera Canes on Amazon? the metal sticks with rounded ends that allow one to poke bits of the back easily? They look like they might be a good idea?
Hiyas Elfie 🙂 Struggling with the cold and damp, but got myself a microwaveable back pad lol, I look real cute wrapped in the tartan hehehe, but it is loverly! oooh!
How are you?
Hiya Cassie.
A tartan microwaveable back pad? You are so posh!
I'm still using ice packs!!
I'll have to look at your torture equiptment later, i'll let you know!
As for me, I have failed to get my MP to insist that the Welsh Assembly Minister for Health grant funding for my second decompression at The Spinal Foundation. So its back to the drawing board for me, Except, that I have now agreed to a consultation with a Neurosurgical based Spinal Surgeon in the Cardiff Spinal Unit. The orthopaeds were rubbish!!
I will be taking all my evidence and grilling him like a Burger king flame grill whooper!! WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
Catcha laider Cassie![]()
