Day 5 after my discectomy and the nerve pain in my leg is as bad as ever which combined with the pain in my back, the inability to move much and having to mostly lie flat in bed is taking its toll. I am really worried that the nerve pain wont go and I am stuck with being in pain/on painkillers for the rest of my life. What if the pain does not go are there any further treatments available??? I honestly cannot stand the pain much longer, I feel like a year of my life has been wiped out because of it. I cant care for my child properly being in so much pain and so debilitated.
I am not having a good day today

Hi Molly
Please don't despair, it can be hard work recovering from this op. and the pains post op are very scary I know. I'm 5weeks post op and still have leg pains, although there is significant improvement, it is very frustrating when the surgeons can lead you to believe the operation is the end of it all. I have good days and bad days and none of it seems to make sense but I find the advice in this forum really helps (if you read through other posts) and also helps you realise you might have to be patient and work at recovery. Not wanting to sound down about it but I have been in real panics many days since the op worrying it hasn't worked but I have to remind myself (thanks to posts on here mainly) to let time and patience be the main healer. I too have a child (6 month old) and it very difficult feeling you are not able to be the mum you wan't to be. I'm very strict about not lifting him still and seek a lot of help from my family and friends. I'm not lifting anything over 10lbs for another 2weeks and only after that will I begin to lift gradually and carefully.
People on this forum have encouraged me to be patient and not fret too much and whilst I find this easier said than done I would offer the same advice to you. The post surgery care hasn't been too good for me which doesn't help as you feel quite alone. Have you been referred for Physio?
Take care and keep going 🙂
No nothing was mentioned about physio. I work part time as a PA which worries me as I got to the stage I couldnt sit down at all and thats when I went on the sick. I also have 5 rabbits to care for daily which thankfully my dad is doing at the minute but I also run a rabbit boarding business which involves lots of sweeping/bending down.
I am just so tired of being in pain and my life being on hold.
