Hi,
My sister has become allergic to dust....she has wooden floors and hoovers and mops etc but finds she is just pushing around the dust rather than cleaning it up...
She is going through a very stressful time at the moment and has eczema on her feet and back. She also has athletes foot. she has been to the docs and has all the creams etc etc...
So here is the dilemma: she is told to wear sandals for the athlete's foot etc but the dust on the floor is triggering her allergic reaction...
Does anyone know any cleaning tricks to keep the dust at bay or are there any natural remedies that can help prevent any reactions to the dust?
Any advice would be very welcome....any extra tips on helping calm eczema would be brill also 🙂
thanks in advance x
i didn't realise there is an allergies section - can a moderator please move this post if needed? thanks x
Hi beautystudent
When I went to see an allergy specialist - he did all of the tests on my arm and it turned out I was allergic to dustmites, which is a very common allergy. He advised me that wooden floors are better than carpets, to hoover floors on a daily basis; not to use a duvet but to use sheets and blankets to use a mattress cover and when changing the bed to hoover the mattress and avoid feather/down pillows. all very time consuming.
Needless to say I haven't kept up the daily hoovering regime - I still have some carpets and now much prefer cotton sheets and blankets to a duvet.

I also have dust mite allergy, itis not an allergy to them themselves but a protein in their faeces. I also have eczema on my foot around my little toe and on my big toe down under the nail. I also had all the creams etc. I gave up all the creams as the benefit seemed so limited. Use Lamisil 1 for the athletes foot - Brilliant. Now as for your floor, hoovering just stirs up the dust, if you must hoover, wear a damp mask, mopping the floor - use a mild solution of vinegar on the mop. use this also to damp dust, and on a daily basis for quite a while, this gets rid of the mite etc. When washing clothes, bedding especially and socks (cotton) put Bicarbonate of soda in the rinse. I change my matress cover alternate days as well as using hollow fill pillows with covers. This has saved me a lot of problems, I also have dry eyes so have to use drops daily, but only when I go out.
Blessings
Dust is also a problem in houses that are kept well heated with central heating as it can dry out the dust and allow it to blow about more easily.
If possible, cut down on the central heating when it's not needed (also good for your fuel bills ;)) and open the windows regularly to let air blow through the house as this will a) take any dust in the air with it and b) allow a little more humidity into the house which helps keep the dust from 'flying' about so much when the windows are closed. As Tesco's love to tell us... every little helps. 😀

thanks a million for the replies...will send them on. Very much appreciated x
The stress she is going through has impacted her immune system hence now an allergy to dust.
If she works on reducing the stress she's under her eczema should subside as should any allergies.
I'd agree with Rosi to go to the root issue of improving her immune system. It's often the case that particular incidents in our lives can compromise our health because of the way they leave us feeling emotionally. Our emotions have a strong impact on our health.
I'd suggest finding a good Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) practitioner near to her to work on eliminating the responses she has to the particular stresses in her life and she should see her allergies reduce and resolve themselves.
she knows that her stress levels are causing some of her physical problems...she has taken steps to remove some of the stress from her life but i think she does need help on how to handle stress too as mentioned.
I will mention the EFT practicioner to her...thanks a million x
A great breathing and relaxation exercise that will help one become aware of their body and help to reduce stress and bring about relaxation.
4-WAY BREATHING
Take yourself to a quiet place before beginning this exercise where you will not be interrupted. Either sit on a chair or lie down, feet and arms uncrossed. If you lie down and have a tendency to fall asleep, sit on a chair instead.
1. Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth 4 times.
2. Breathe in through the mouth and out through the mouth 4 times.
3. Breathe in through the mouth and out through the nose 4 times.
4. Breathe in through the nose and out through the nose 4 times.
At this point, continue breathing in through the nose and out through the nose.
v When breathing in visualise relaxing and calming white light entering your body.
v When breathing out visualise all stress and negativity leaving your body.
Then, starting at your feet, feel them relaxing as the white light fills them. Now relax your ankles, shins and calf muscles. Relax your thighs, stomach and waist and continue until your whole body is relaxed. Dont forget to visualise the white light! As a reminder, you are breathing in and out through the nose!
Note: If your mind wanders, bring your awareness back and continue relaxing your whole body. You will find the exercise easier with practice.
Note: This breathing can be done at any time. If you feel tense, agitated, angry, stressed, anxious etc, go through the 4-way breathing for a few moments. You will feel calmer and more relaxed allowing you to cope better with your day and giving you a sense of wellbeing.
This exercise is beneficial if you have a headache. After relaxing your whole body using the above technique, bring your awareness to where the pain is and fill the area of discomfort with calming and relaxing white light. Do this for as long as you feel it is necessary. Know that the white light is soothing and releasing the tension of your headache.
You can replace the headache with whatever condition you are experiencing. For example, backache, tooth pain etc.
This exercise is also beneficial if you are seeking a connection with Spirit. It will relax you and quieten your mind, allowing those in Spirit to better communicate with you.
thanks Rosi1...so great to have techniques which help 🙂
This one works every time, and great to help you sleep also.
i think i will be printing it out and putting it beside my own bed, takes me hours to get tired and sleepy 🙂 thanks again
I think it would be safe if she can lessen to go out the house or make sure to wear a socks to her feet for protection purposes. And have a regularly check-up on the dermatologist or any doctors that has concern on her allergy.
thanks joyz...yeah maybe 100% cotton socks would be a way to go as i think it lets the feet breathe more than other materials...i'll make sure she does go for her check-ups. thanks x
