Hey there,
I really need to quit! I was pregnant this year and didnt have a problem quitting then at all. However since I miscarried Ive been smoking more than ever.
I hate it but dont seem to have the willpower to stop again. Can anyone recommend anything?
Thanks xx
RE: Quitting Smoking
I have no personal experience of trying to quit smoking ~ however a friend of mine says that hynotherapy did the trick for her.

RE: Quitting Smoking
Hi Angelcakes,
I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriage and that the need to smoke has come back. From the way you relate the two events it seems there is a strong connection between them. Can you identify within yourself what it was about being pregnant that made quitting so straightforward for you? That should give you useful info when working with a therapist to get the success you're looking for.
If you would like to feel lasting calm about emotional issues underlying the need to smoke then I'd suggest Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). It's excellent at releasing emotional distress. In the addictions work I do I find that there's often a need to tranquilise painful emotions, and cigarettes are one of the ways of doing that. If we can neutralise the underlying cause then quitting in a lasting way becomes achievable. The clients I've helped have found EFT suits them wonderfully to quitting in a safe and often quick way. It's a therapy that works over the telephone as well, so you can work with someone in the comfort of your home. Therapies that others have found successful are mentioned in other threads on this forum, so you might get inspiration from having a read.
Whichever therapy you go for, look for a therapist with whom you click. That's going to be the most important element to success as they're hearing and understanding what you describe and tailoring the therapy to suit you.
Take care,
Cub
RE: Quitting Smoking
I smoked for 15 years and have stopped smoking for just over 2 months now, the urge to smoke has almost gone and I really like not smelling!!
I read 'The Easyway to stop smoking' by Allen Carr. It's brilliant and doesn't go on and on about how bad it is for you and how it makes you smell and all the other things a smoker doesn't want to hear. It's all about attitudes such as not saying you're going to 'give up' smoking as you're not giving anything up but moving on to a wonderful life with out cigarettes - that sort of thing.
Sounds cheesy but it seems to have worked for me!
It was also the second time i had read it, the first time I quit for a couple of months but never lost the craving for a ciggie, I'm not sure why, maybe i didn;t read it properly or it just didn;t goin or something. But if you've already tried it, I'd recommend another go.
Best £10 I've ever spent!
RE: Quitting Smoking
Sonic, you're repeating my story exactly! I was smoking at least 20 a day, couldn't have a moment without a ciggie somewhere near, horrible! And I got 'Easyway to stop smoking ' from my friend who stopped smoking after about 30 years of puffing away:)
and as well I had to rad it twice, because the first time I started smoking again after couple of months - not the case of cravings though, but I was quite drunk and being silly 🙁 after the second time I stopped for good and it was nearly thre years ago! No 'cravings', no 'need' for a cigarette....blissful heaven! 🙂
Allen Carr highly recommended fom my side as well:)
RE: Quitting Smoking
I had hypnotherapy to help with stopping smoking which I'd done for over 30 years and it worked. You need to want to give up the dreaded weed or it won't work also I believe you should have a good report with your hypnotherapist.
Now coming up to my first birthday of being a non smoker and not only have I surprised my friends and family I've surprised myself too.
Good luck

RE: Quitting Smoking
I spent twelve years practising clinical hypnotherapy exclusively and found it to be one of the most successful tools for smoking cessation. However, it doesn't work well for everybody and in more recent years I have begun to combine it with laser acupuncture (acupuncture without needles) and with Biological Terrain Analysis. By testing samples of urine and saliva, through a computer-based programme I am able to show such imbalances as high free radical activity, acidity in the body tissues, poor mineral status, etc. After a month of quitting I test the client again. The improvements can be spectacular. Of course, this gives the client an incentive to quit, and the laser acupuncture really helps with the withdrawal symptoms.
