My husband has a 9 mm KS in his kidney. He has no symptoms. Why should he go through surgery? Any help would be welcome.

Because, if he doesn't, it could get bigger, or come loose and get stuck, which can cause excruciating pain and cause other issues that will be harder to treat.
Of course the choice is his.
