Morning all,
I watched a bit of Casualty on Saturday night and there was, for the purpose of the scene, a baby left to cry in the cot.
I feel uncomfortable with this (much in the same way as when animals are used in unsettling scenes in films) - surely it's all very well allowing a child to be filmed when it is happy (and some would disagree with even this) but to allow a young baby to cry (therefore exhibiting and feeling an amount of distress) whilst you film around it, seems downright inhumane.
Thoughts on a postcard please 😀
Hi delighted
So right.
most of our human society is sub-human. The more 'cultured' it becomes, more sub-human it seems to get. This kind of observation is becoming increasingly common amongst certain people. It is hitting some in the face that how terribly inhumane we have become. There seems to be a lot more value attached to piece of paper than most things. Greed at the very root of most evils. Human values digging deeper and deeper into the mire of stagnation.
Many are being hit by the crass grossness of how humanity functions. When you respond as you do to it, that response becomes your own personal light that helps you to consciously keep away from joining the band wagon and walk towards love.
Personally I feel in my waters that these sub-human ways are stretching themselves so much that they are going to explode/implode.
Seeds of change
Hey Jnani, nice to speak with you again! I seem to have a rather fluctuating relationship with HP. I fluctuate in... and I fluctuate out again.... 😀
Yes it's funny how suddenly these things become more and more apparent to you. A few years ago I might not have thought so strongly about it but now it just seems to horribly wrong that I can't watch it. It irritates me though because people around me think I am over-reacting.. or being oversensitive. And don't get me started on horse racing!! I have to refrain from talking to my friends if one of them even begins to mention a day at the race at Goodwood. I had free tickets to a Wings and Wheels event and so took the kids. I refused to walk in the army helicopter and my friend's husband looked at me like I was insane.. ah well.. I can't help it if I feel anti-military :)!
nice to see you again delighted. I may have told you before, but I shall say it again... I feel like cuddling that avatar kitty.
times are changing, sure as death. The rotten consciousness has started to stink so much, that most are noticing. That happens usually when consciousness is cooking something. These are end days for sub-humanness( it may carry on for a few decades) but the rottenness is exhausting itself.
Happy days
Yes the avatar is good. I was in a rather sardonic/sarcastic mood when I chose the name 'Delighted' and so thought that the cat may express this well. (God forbid anyone actually thought I spent my life feeling delighted).
Hurrah to the receding rotteness!

Happy days
I find the behaviour on TV so crass and awful that I hardly watch it these days. It all seems to be done to hype things up to get better ratings, but all it does to me is make me want to switch off. It bothers me a lot that our children are brought up on this dreadful behaviour and so they think it is normal . It hurts me to see my grandchildren watch cartoons and even some Disney programmes where behaviour is completely unacceptable and often very violent - so I try to distract them - often to no avail :o.
It concerns me greatly that few notice how awful many programmes are. And as for leaving a baby crying in the programme - one cannot excuse it. I see little idea that this rottenness is exhausting itself yet though :(.
Perhaps I live in my own world where things are much gentler!
I don't disagree with any comments here, but do have to ask, is this such a new thing? Surely there are many scenes in some of the 'good old' black and white films where babies were crying?

Ah but you see Derek I am sooooooooooooooo young I wouldn't know about those black and white films..:D..Oh alright.. no of course you are right - no it isn't a new thing at all and it is still horrible. I can't stand the old Westerns where horses and cattle are fleeing in stampedes and many fall. Or made to rear up and react to guns being shot. Mind you I couldn't even stand taking my daughter to horse riding lessons because it just all felt so wrong, to the extent that she didn't go again 😮

Hi Delighted
Hmmm......funny you should bring that up! But here are some other perspectives. I also happened to watch casualty and noticed that the baby was really crying a lot. At first, it wasn't so bad, then I really started to become aware of it, so I looked more closely and noticed that when the crying was loudest (in the scene I was watching), I couldn't see the baby's face, so I thought maybe it could have been a recording. Unfortunately, that was the last scene with the baby crying, so I wasn't able to tell if I assumed correctly. But I also thought maybe I'm no longer used to tv as I don't watch it that often.
Anyway, this subject made me think about how we have an almost inbuilt instinct to react some way to crying babies. It upsets some and it irritates others, but rarely are we ever indifferent. Interesting, isn't it. Then I remembered something I read somewhere about how we react and how that reaction can sometimes suppress a baby's expression. Obviously, when a baby cries, it is trying to communicate with us, so we usually respond and feed, change or cuddle. But......sometimes the baby may be expressing some emotion which we don't figure out and we just want the crying to stop, so we distract baby and baby stops crying without having fully expressed themselves. This could send a message that its not okay to express emotions?..........distractions are good?........20 years later, this has caused a bahaviour pattern in 'big baby'!! Could have been a load of rubbish, but.....something to think about, huh!

Hi Crystal Elf..
Don't get me wrong, I have an 8 month old baby who often cries when he is whatever it is he is.. and I agree that it is a form of expression.. and yes, it may well have been a recording in the latter part of the scenes but my point is that we think it is ok to have a baby doing actual crying in a scene at all. I am presuming we, as the viewers, needed to see that the baby was crying. Now whether the baby was purely voicing it's opinion over the wallpaper or the cameraman's dodgy squint 😀 or whether it was really saying 'what the hell am I doing in this place?' is anybody's guess.. but.. guess I will because the baby looked the similar age as mine and at the moment he is going through the whole teething/separation anxiety thing and the moment I leave him alone he erupts in tears and won't be soothed until I return and pick him up. Therefore, the idea that they have allowed a baby to cry at all for the sake of television viewing makes me cross. Is earning some money that important to the parents? Maybe it is.. who knows..:(

Get rid of your TV and you won't be funding it ......

😀 Then I would have to hear two kids crying non-stop! Mind you, then I could get them into acting and Bob's your uncle!

Delighted ~ you mean you don't tend lovingly to your crying kids (like the unattended baby crying in casualty).... I think I'm spotting a pattern here....... 🙂
Shall I go pop-psychology on you and suggest that you are the crying baby, the poor animals and the bedraggled kitty that need loving attention..... or is that too cheesy;)

If you want to clear the room ~ don't forget to lavish yourself with a few coats of non-waterproof mascara before you get going :D. Oh and grab the nearest cat for comfort... even that will flee in horror eventually - lets hope cats eventually develop the ability to form Weeping Women Rescue Centers.....:D It's about time they returned the favour..
