Just like to gather some meditation techniques and information that are working for you. I am exploring various methods but nothing beats getting real info from those of you who are practising them. Please share..Thanks!

Well, there are so many different meditation techniques out there and different people seem to like different ones.
I've tried many different ones myself, but I found the most effective for getting a deep meditative state is mantra based meditation (the same as taught in Transcendental Meditation, but available in other teachings under other names, and without the 'ceremony' that seems to accompany TM, which isn't necessary).

You may want to check out previous discussion in the http://www.healthypages.com/community/forums/meditation.77/ forum

It's not "one-size-fits-all". Different meditation techniques are suitable for different people, and different goals.
The best technique is the one that works for you, ideally one that engages your interest for the rest of your life. There are many very good techniques. Explore and try different ones, allowing time so that you have some experience from which to see if they are effective. 🙂

I am not sure what "works best" means but I've been practising chi kung since 1988 and I'm quite mellow. Apparently, my car horn works. Last time I used a car horn was in 2003 when I was adjusting the mat in the footwell and banged my forehead on the button. 😀

I like guided meditations and there are lots out there both free and paid. I found a lovely album on Amazon prime (so FOC) called Guided Meditations Gold. 19 short 5 minute meditations with different foci and one nearly an hour long to use at bedtime.....

I got this app last night. Will let you know how I get on with it: http://amzn.to/1N41GPn

You can specify a number of different types of meditation and lengths (see the images).

Update!

Just tried one that you do while you're sitting AT YOUR PC! (Or Mac!) Whoever put this app together seems well-informed about meditation. Meditation doesn't just have to be in a monastery with incense and monks going ohmmmmmm while seated in the full lotus position floating an inch off the ground.

As is typical for SW London, half way through the meditation, someone started drilling and hammering next door. Didn't really feel any emotion towards it.

I often deal with anxiety, so anything that helps calm the thoughts rushing around my mind and bring me to a more balanced state is what I aim to achieve. I also usually find it hard to reach a real meditative state indoors, and usually take myself in the garden or to the park. The sounds and smells of the world around me are very calming...absolute silence, not so much.
