Is it me or have washing machines just got more unreliable as time goes on? We've had two in the last 11 years - is that good or bad? We've now just ordered our third and, given there's only me and Bill, it's not like we use it a great deal!!!
Also... do you know how hard it is to find a washer/dryer that's energy efficient and efficient in other areas? Having been on the Which? site the one we've just bought cost us £510 (including delivery and installation and collection/disposal of the old machine). It's a B rating... but the it only has 2 stars out of 5 for the rinse! :O The £1000 machine Which? recommends is only a C rating!
If it weren't for all the hard work of actually having to stand there and do the washing myself, I'd get a twintub!! My gran's had two in the last 30 years or so and the second one's still going strong!
Maybe I should go hide back behind the sofa LOL
Its not you Illumine, as i was told by a washing machine engineer that they are no longer 'built to last', the average life span between 4-5 years- good news for them as it keeps them in business!:(
Mine would be classified as decrepit because its 7 years old, every year without fail something goes wrong with it ( like now, as the dryer mechanism is steaming, rather than drying my clothes-good job i took out insurance!) but is still going strong. I've got a hotpoint aqaurius washer/dryer where i don't think its that energy effiecient, and i've also noticed that the more energy efficient an appliance is, the more expensive it is- talk about the companies exploiting us!
Warmest wishes- calla lily x
The washer in the house we're renting has got to be over 20 years old, and the freezer looks like it dates from the 70's, but they're both going strong (hopefully)! They make me a bit nervous being that old and they're far from energy efficient but they still work well. I can't imagine appliances bought today lasting that long. I can understand manufacturers wanting us to buy more fridges and things but it seems like overall quality's gone downhill, sadly.
yes i agree every thing that we buy today is not made to last i am sure in the generations to come this society will been known as the wastful ones today my sons playsation 2 has given up the goast and it is only maybe three years old and they are not cheap but there you go we know have to get him a new consul for christmas so the makers win again.
