Hi all!
I was wondering what is the best way to get people to practice on? I'm new enough to this area that I don't really know anyone (I'm in Kildare, Ireland in case anyone is curious!).
I was going to post on an Irish forum, but I know as soon as I say 'Thai Massage' it will just be jokes and innuendos!! I might still have to post there as I don't see any other way of getting bodies to practice on.
Anyone any advice?
Thanks 🙂
Have you thought about contacting some of the therapists in your area to offer then some free sessions? We all need a treat now and then, over the years I have willingly been a 'body' for new therapists. That way, you may find you are talking to people who speak the same language and will have a little knowledge about the subject.
Thanks Jabba!
That's one of the ideas I'd had, but didn't know if it was silly... like they wouldn't want to help someone that may be seen as competition? I know I don't see it that way, but wasn't sure how others would feel 🙂
People to practise on
Hi there,
I am not sure who you are training with, but came across a training provider just by search engine.
IBHT, 6 Lower Main St,
Newbridge,
Co. Kildare,
Ireland.
Phone: +353 (0)45 438090
E-mail: info@ibht.ie
You can also try and contact other therapists in the area simply by looking in your local directory. Also if you are on face book (only friends) or friends of friends this is also an excellent way of gaining some practise on. It is just a thought. Hope it helps. Wish I was in Kildare I would love to try Thai massage.
🙂
Reviveme, that's so funny, I've never heard of that school! I suppose I maybe stopped looking at schools and courses when I moved to Kildare, but it's a great idea!
...and hey, if ever you're in Kildare 😉
Post of FB and you will be inundated with people wanting therapy. It never fails for me 🙂
Thanks Tashanie! Yeah, that would be the best way and I'd say normally it would work great, but my friends list is made up of people in every county I've lived in except Kildare. It's surprisingly hard to find people when you're not working with a group of people, or studying with a group, or member of a club.
I was thinking about taking up Muay Thai, so maybe it'll open a few doors for me too. Some clubs like having Thai trained masseurs they can call on.
I'll maybe stick a poster up in a couple of healthfood stores and see if I get a response 🙂
I think Jabbas idea of contacting local therapists is a great idea. I'm nowhere near you, so I can't volunteer but I think us hard working could always benefit from freebie treatments 🙂 and who better to give you feedback. I know like you say, there is the issue of you being future competition to them, so no doubt you will get some who refuse but you will probably find some who will be receptive.
I think Jabbas idea...
Thanks staranise 🙂
I have a couple of people showing a little interest after posting on another forum, but I've already been hit with the 'it depends if you're male or female' scenario...
No getting around that one!! I wonder if people in Ireland are more concerned about the sex of the therapist than in the UK?
Which is why it may be more 'advantageous' to network with other therapists - 'we' have mostly got over worrying what sex the therapist may be and are more interested in the therapy (and having a treat for a change!).
