Can anyone think of an essential oil that is great for helping to ease breathing please, in particular nasally?
Any help much appreciated.
Chris.
Is this because of a cold? Or something else?
You could try eucalyptus, basil, marjoram, lavender, sandalwood, cedarwood ...(there are others as well).
Three drops (can be a blend) in hot water. Sit over it with a towel over your head, breathing (through your nose, if possible) for as long as you can.
Thanks Crowan, it's just for the families occasional colds and / or bunged up noses which then hinders their sleep at night. THey don't have trouble sleeping though. Would it be okay to put a few drops of one of those on a pillow at night?

Try that with lavender and eucalyptus. Or do the bowl and towel thing just before bed. Or put them in a burner in the sitting room during the evening.
Something I try - not aromatherapy, but very useful - is elderflower, yarrow and peppermint as dried herbs. A teaspoon of each per person in hot water, strain, then drink. It's not very nice tasting but, taken at the first sign of a cold, really helps. (I dry my own each year. Just picking the elderflower this month. Yarrow in August and peppermint in the garden all year round.)
Thank you very much, the helps appreciated.
Also, while we're on the subject, where is a good source for 1 litre of pure, 100% organic Eucalyptus oil please?
Penny Price is one of the best. ( http://penny-price.com/product-category/pure-essential-oils/?product_count=48 ) but a litre is going to be very expensive (Penny Price is about £10.25 for 25ml) wherever you try. If it's cheap, then it's not good quality. It might not even be eucalyptus even if it is labelled as such.
Why do you need so much?
Thanks, I will look on that link. Perhaps just a 100ml to start.
Spearmint and peppermint fresh or dried as discussed above in boiling weather is great for healing nasal and mucus build up in digestive tract. These are easy grown year round. Another consideration is to look at your diet.
Food allergies possible? Hope this is helpful.
Thanks Zandalee - no food allergies, just normal colds. Looking really for a a few drops of liquid to go on a pillow.
Just a thought, but out of all the products mentioned here, just to ease an occasional bunged up nose, and to put a few drops on your pillow, would you say that eucalyptus would be the best?
Eucalyptus or lavender.
Thanks Crowan, I was thinking of Peppermint oil, but I'll look at the Eucalyptus as well.

Colds are hassle huh..the weather by us has been so crazy this year. You have received a ot of good advice this forum. Hope you nose feels better.
Thanks, it's for the whole family for use throughout the year. Just a thought, but if I want to make up a small container of this Eucalyptus for a few drops on the pillow at night, can I use it neat, undiluted?
