We left some bottles of drinking water (from a local spring) in the sun, and it has gone ever so light green. Can we still drink it?
Thanks, Annemieke.
If the water was recently collected close to the source of the spring, it should be OK. If it has traveled through the ground for some distance before surfacing, and may have picked up a particular bacterial particulate, causing an 'algae bloom' then I would say, pour it out and rinse the container and start again. Our house supply is from a spring, a few years ago we noticed that it wasn't as clear as usual, so had it analysed. There were 22 E-coliforms in it - 7 of which were nasty! We had to track the supply to the source, where we found that the spring housing had been compromised, and passing deer/sheep/cattle, had been stomping about on the broken housing and left their mark! It was resolved over a few days, and is now top grade stuff!
