I don't remember the Catholic church being demonised in this country because of the actions of the IRA. Is it because to most of us Islam was a religion we never had to deal with, or think about before? Was it something 'they' did, and 'they' were always far away?

Whilst most of the troubles around the world may seem to have started by being of a religious nature, it is MHO that various people and elements have used that possible link to further their own ends.

Therefore I do not believe that we should blame religion for the problems, only the despicable fanatics that are twisting it and fanning disquiet and bloodshed by using it to further their own personal gain, enjoyment, lust and personal vendetta’s.

I agree.

But what I'd like to understand is what these things have to do with what Dr. Williams was talking about?? I see no connection, but so many other people do for some reason.

Yes we have drifted a bit (ok a lot):) But I think the connection for me anyway is the old adage of "the thin end of the wedge" or "give them an inch and they will take a yard".

They may or may not, but who can guarantee that? Certainly not Dr Williams. It is for that reason that I am against the idea.

As for Hindu temples destroyed by Muslims, (as you know I was brought up as a Sikh so I’m sure you can appreciate how Islam is historically perceived by my family) – Hindus are engaging in the destruction of Mosques right now – today - in both the most northern and southern parts of the Indian Sub Continent.

Dear Conspiritualist,

This is just plain false information.

Please supply evidence of the number of Mosques destroyed by Hindus as opposed to the number of Hindu temples destroyed by the Muslims in the Indian sub-continent. In the last 50 years.

You will find that Islamic destruction is far worse.

And during the long Islamic rule, Hindus were in no position to destroy many mosques.

Please supply the necessary evidence from independent, unbiased and verifiable sources.

Thank you.

Prashna

:rollaugh::rollaugh:… What!!!
First you claim it’s “false information” ?
then almost in the same breath you patently admit it’s true and claim that Hindus have done less of it?
lol, Is this not – (I asume especially to a Vulcan mind) – illogical?

And surely even more ridiculous to also request (twice mind) evidence for the existence of something you’ve already agreed exists…

Tut tut… what would Spock say?:)

Sorry, V, can't let you get away with this. The Vijayanagar Empire may well have been a paragon of virtue but the empire was put together by the conquest of other people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vijayanagar_empire
It didn't just spontaneously arise without bloodshed.

Hi Sunanda,

I had to type that in a hurry. My single point there is that Muslim invasions and bloodshed, initiated by them, was going on before the British Empire existed. On the Vijayanagar Empire, typing quickly, I meant that on that occasion of their downfall they did engage in battle, but only in self-defence. (And lost - as it wasn't a great idea to have a large percentage of Muslims in their own army, who turned on the Hindus!) Didn't mean the civilisation in general.

[Edit to add: whoo, I just got in and only now see how many posts follow the one I just replied to. I'd better read on!]

V

Good for you. But I think as a response to a genuine post it was in this instance off topic and bad form.
