On the face of it RP - horrifying!

Yet in these days of propaganda and deliberate misinformation, edited / biased articles and papers/ media channels - when something is so potentially dangerous / inflammatory or there is a doubt what you should believe... I try to find the time to go a bit further.

Whilst I am sure there are nuggets of truth in this - I fear there are also distortions... I read the after comments to get a feel... the source...links from that as to who the writer is .... googled the topic...

I am sure there is much to commend a better, more responsible use of Mother Nature and her gifts, better ways to manage food supplies etc etc... but I wonder how much of this has been just tweaked enough away from the basic truth to sensationalise? how much is hard fact that can be put in perspective to get to the root of the subject?

Will be very interested to know others view...and indeed yours RP.

I don't know what to think of this RP. It is built around a worst case scenario. Reckon it's time to get in the garden and dig though, it's not a bad idea regardless.

You might want to look into the background of the site the story is on, or even just look through their other stories. It's little more than a collection of posts from sensationalist blogs and is running an advertising affiliate programme on the site pages. It's not a reputable source and if you search websites of professional news organisations, you won't find anyone else publishing the same content.

It does look a bit like those rags they sell at checkouts in the US.

Very interesting. There are nuggets of truth in this - the floods, droughts and fires worldwide have been reported over the last few months in the news - we keep a fairly close eye on this sort of thing as it affects our farm commodity prices.

With those recent disastrous events, inevitably food production is disrupted, but whether to the point where we are going to be seriously short of food, I'm not sure. The sale price of wheat off farm has risen very considerably since last autumn - almost doubled (they have been abysmal for the last 20 years). This happens because the price of wheat is set in the Chicago Exchange and affects world prices, based on world supplies.

The concern is that recnt governments in UK have been oblivious to farmers' comments that we cannot let the industry decline any further - we are not only losing livestock (cattle, sheep and pigs) plus but increasing acres of our land is put down to production of biofuels, but as the average age of farmers is now 59 we are also losing skills. Our ability to feed ourselves is down to under 50% - the rest is imported from abroad. This leaves us in a very vulnerable position as a country. It happened quite recently that our country had just enough wheat for 10 days before the harvest was brought in - that doesn't allow for poor weather! - but we were lucky and the weather held. It was a close thing though.

However it is unlikely with our buying power that we shall suffer too much, but the Third World will be in serious trouble - the price of food being out of their ability to afford. That is beginning to happen already.

As for Sarkozy and Obama getting prepared for riots, etc - well, I don't know.

As you say Celia, we need to respect Mother Nature's gifts instead of using Her generosity profligately.

There is a comment at the bottom of the article where someone points out that the author is 'a known internet hoaxer' - let's hope so! - but I fear not.

Thank you all for interesting comments.

It was posted on facebook, that's how I got to read it.

Scaremongering came to my mind, but who knows what secret plans there is hidden away by goverments. One thing is for certain that the price of food has been rising, and we in the west waste so much of it. Food self-sufficiency may not be an option, but a necessity. But I don't think NWO and Monsanto will like that.

Today has been riots in Egypt and Obama doesn't seem to be backing the present regimen, which doesn't seem to run with this article.

Best wishes

RP

I had a very quick look at the site and wasn't too impressed to say the least. I then had a look to see what others had to say about it...

http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/European_Union_Times

"...It is little more than a compiler and regurgitator of various news stories and a particularly unpleasant far-right leaning blog. The reporting is, without exception, shockingly unprofessional... this is utter neo Nazi bo**ocks."

http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2009/12/16/racist-skinheads-wife-behind-european-news-website/

"The European Union Times isn’t exactly a venerable news source akin to, say, The Associated Press. It is registered to Jessica Nachtman, wife of Christopher Nachtman. [Editor's note: After the initial posting of this blog item, Jessica Nachtman wrote Hatewatch to say that she merely provides Web hosting for "a European who lives abroad," who she declined to identify further. She said she does not publish or modify any of the site's content.] Christopher Nachtman is a former member of the neo-Nazi group National Alliance who more recently has been active in Volksfront, a racist skinhead group."
