New technology makes huge gas reserves available to the West:
If reliable, as it does seem to be, this is one of the most significant articles I've read this year. How strange - and it can't be coincidence - that this news hasn't been well-publicised. Who was gaining from the silence?

"For the world as a whole, technically recoverable gas resources are now conservatively reckoned to amount to around 16,000 trillion cubic feet. In short, as a result of the shale revolution, the Earth can now provide us with about 250 years worth of gas supplies.
"The so-called peak oil theory, which suggests that within the foreseeable future the world will run out of fossil fuels coal, oil and gas has never looked more absurd.
"Gas-fired power stations emit roughly half the carbon dioxide that coal-fired power stations do, which is why the U.S. is the only country to have significantly reduced its CO2 emissions in recent years.
"Until now, the West has been heavily dependent for its supplies of oil and gas on an unstable Middle East and an unreliable Russia. Crucially, all that has changed because gas and oil-bearing shale is scattered throughout the world including in Britain.
"This has shaken up the old world order and the global balance of power is being permanently transformed before our eyes."

I'm sure none of us want to see fossil fuels of any kind still used for another 250+ years, but personally I see this development as giving us a space in time, breathing space as it were, in which to develop truly metaphysical and futuristic sources of energy, such as "Energy from the Unseen" which would be limitless and totally non-polluting. But scare tactics that the world is "running out of energy" just aren't true anymore.

Thought we were running out of fossil fuels? New technology means Britain and the U.S. could tap undreamed reserves of gas and oil | Mail Online
Earlier this week it was reported they are wanting to look for gas in Surrey, but it is in the middle of the most picturesque countryside so the local residents aren't to pleased with the idea!
I also saw earlier that gas prices have dropped heavily in Texas particularly and some multinationals are relocating there from Europe and elsewhere as fuel prices ar so high here,
Interesting times ahead maybe?
Fracking is already in use in this country isn't it? It was blamed for causing an earthquake in the North west.
I am afraid I take anything the Mail say with a pinch of salt.

Scarcely a silence. Perhaps you should try a different paper? Ive been reading articles about this for several years in the Guardian and in the New Scientist.
