Oh crikey - I grew up in the 60's/ Strikes at the drop of hat. Even as a child in the shires I knew about ''Red Robbo' at british Leyland in Longbridge. Granted the news I saw was filtered through the daily Express which was the paper my dad took. But it made a strong impression on a young child.....as did the Liberal party.

I still remember the headline 'now we are 6' when Eric Lubbock won the Orpington bye election. There was another reason the Liberal party made a strong impression on me. Marlow (where I grew up) had a liberal councillor - and my dad (he was the housing manager) used to be really annoyed by their tactics.

I have already said ANY party is a coalition of people with a spectrum of ideas. The Lib dems embody most of what I believe in. They were green for years before the big two - and at one time would not put up a candidate if the green party had one standing. But there are things Labour say I agree with and things Tories say I agree with....which is why I have never seen coalitions as a bad thing. Bring on PR is what I say....and of course THAT is one major reason why I support the Lib Dems. Nigel Farage ALSO supports PR......but it would be a cold day in hell before I voted for him.

Thank you for your good wishes. I am a paper candidate only and am not campaigning.

This is actually my point. We remember what the newspapers tell us about an event - and the Express has always been anti-unions. Often we can't know what is going on until we can read historical analysis - sometimes years later - and see facts that we did not come across at the time.
Besides, what happens when unions are weak? Look at the way the firemen are having to fight at the moment - over "reforms" that should never have been considered.

Coalitions are not necessarily bad things. Much of Europe manages very well with coalitions. Nor are minority governments bad - again, the popular press gives us that impression, but a minority government cannot push through the more extreme, idealist-led, policies.

Well now this all goes to show that it is a fact we may as well just pick a party out of a hat!

Actually, it doesn't. All you are saying is that you don't care enough to give it (a little) thought. In what way are (for example) the Conservatives and the Greens so alike that you can't tell the difference? Or the Lib-Dems and UKIP? Have you even looked at their policies?
Democracy only works if we all take some responsibility.

To be honest Crowan in an ideal world this would be the case but with the best will, thought and policies in the world, politicians just say anything they think suitable to gain votes. We as minions just pretend voting for a particular party makes us accountable/important. Those in power will continue to look after themselves, the rich will get richer, there is no justice in politics. I have looked at different policies etc., but much of the jargon I don't understand. I was hoping folk on here with strong view points could have come along and just given a simple down to earth simple sentence to boost their particular choice. All it has created is this back and forth 'no but', 'yes but.'
