There's a novel about massage called Mavis and I... - loads of interesting thoughts on Massage but a much easier read than a text book! You may even be able to win a copy - there's a competition to win a copy of the book plus a voucher for an hour long Massage with participating therapists throughout the UK at www.nohandsmassage.com
Has anyone been prosecuted for using essential oils when not 'a qualified aromatherapist'?
She can easily use essential oils by putting a few drops in a carrier oil after reading a book on it or just using lavender in a carrier?
Common sense may prevail occasionally.
I don't think any doctors are reporting a 'rise in the incidence of patients presenting with symptoms resulting from the incorrect use of essential oils used in massage' or in fact anyone presenting with this?!
Well pardon me for trying to be helpful to the poster, and so instead of me going to study to be an Aromatherapist seems a total waste of time I may as well just "get it out of a book"
Honestly you don't half say some **** on times!!

Stick - end wrong.
I don't doubt that aromatherapy can be an art or science with higher levels of knowledge, however that does not mean IMO that an individual should be 'afraid' or worried that they are not 'qualified' if they choose to use some essential oils in their carrier oil and there is enough detail and advice in a book for a layperson to safely do this.
The examples I gave are sound the questions remain unanswered (surprise).
Get off your high horse!
P.S. I'm going to cook some supper now; don't tell anyone though because I am not a 'qualified' chef it's just something I picked up from a book.

She can only use essential oils if she is a qualified aromatherapist
With respect I find this an outrageous, wrong and misleading statement!
I would appreciate an appropriate response, from whoever, so that I may understand what is true and what is false in this statement.
Maybe I shall repeat it again, she can only use essential oils if she is a qualified aromatherapist.
From a qualified Aromatherapist.
Hello Wix
Does she have a nice essential oil burner, to use in her room?
and Coolhandluke...
as a lapsed qualified aromatherapist here...to use aromatherapy oils in a therapeutic or professional treatment, you should be qualified in aromatherapy and have the appropriate insurance....
some oils can be dangerous in certain circumstances!

From a qualified Aromatherapist.
Anyone who wants to can use essential oils.
Fact.
From an unqualified aromatherapist 🙂

But ya don't [COLOR="red"]have to be 'qualified'.
Where did you find this "fact" I'd love to know
But ya don't have to be 'qualified'.
True, you dont have to be qualified to use essential oils fact, but to use essential oils for therapeutic use as a professional service i.e. taking money for the service, the therapist does have to be qualified in aromatherapy...ya!!
But hey ho.....will leave this thread now and leave you to cogitate by yourself......:D

No the aromatherapist does [COLOR="Red"]not have to be qualified in aromatherapy!!
Anyone who wants to can call themself an aromatherapist - just Google it if you don't believe me. Any regulation is self regulation within the alternative therapy profession.
There is no LEGAL requirement to be 'qualified' in and to provide aromatherapy therefore no 'unqualified' aromatherapist is breaking any law.
I'm getting bored with the lack of sensible debate so I will leave this thread now and warn all of you reading this don't believe you HAVE to be 'qualified' to use essential oils EVEN when providing a professional/paid for service.
Strewth:(
Essential oils have been around for thousands of years, aromatherapists have not, now unless the laws have been changed then essential oils are available to everyone to be used as they see fit.
As far as I am aware the title aromatherapist has not been protected, so in effect anyone can set themselves up as an aromatherapist without formal qualifications, what they should not do is advertise themselves as qualified aromatherapists, as that would be misleading and illegal.
The legal differences between a qualified aromatherapist and a lay aromatherapist or any type of therapist is one of accountability, trained therapists are deemed to be accountable because of their training, lay people are not.
The other technicality is trained people because of their accountability need insurance to practise, lay people do not, though public liability might be a useful thing to have. 😉
So can a massage therapist use essential oils to enhance their massage, if used sensibly and in an appropriate dilution and not used to treat dysfunctions then they should not have any problems, some insurance companies are covering themselves on this one.
So qualified massage therapists need to check with their insurance companies as some will and some won't but you need to define the difference between what you are doing as in not treating dysfunctions with essential oils as opposed to an aromatherapist who does use the essential oils to treat dysfunctions.
Tickling Feathers (a set of different guages and lengths).
She can only use Tickling Feathers if she is a qualified tickalotherapist :D:rolleyes:;):confused::):p
