Hmmm online scheduling vs why your massage clients don't return:(

Back on track, any recent horror stories?

Me I have just been frozen a couple of times recently even though I asked for a warmer room, that's the trouble being worked on in an outhouse with warm air heater I suppose:rolleyes:

.......so, CHD, does this mean that you will not return to this particular therapist?

Have you tried?

Not too sure what has been said as there were tonnes of replies,

I am a business coach who specializes with working with massage therapists and the main thing I always say to them is to develop a relationship with them and keep in contact.

A call, or email to remind them that you exist goes a long way, as to letting them know of any special offers that you might have.

It is important that you have good communication with your clients that way even though you may be out of sight you put your self back into their minds

I'd hate being called up...

A call, or email to remind them that you exist goes a long way, as to letting them know of any special offers that you might have.

If anyone calls me up to try to sell anything I tend to refuse and likely to avoid them in the future... I'd be more responsive to an occasional newsletter by email...

Shamelessly bumping my own thread 🙂

New bad experience. I booked a 2 hour fb massage with oil.

I was nearly drowned in oil and she even argued about it when I asked for less oil as it 'was good for me'.

She had told me that some client's spoil their massage because they keep talking. I was silent but she did not stop wittering away.

In the background; the joys of a local radio station with naff pop music interspersed with inane chat and repeated adverts.

My feet were overhanging the couch by about 12". The couch had all the strength of a wallpaper pasting table.

I asked for a pillow for my head when I turned over; she 'didn't have one'.

She wiped all the excess oil off me at the end with paper towels. Strangely this was the best bit of the experience as it was done with a vigor entirely missing during the rest of this humdrum affair.

Suitably oiled up I got dressed, paid £60 and stumbled out into the afternoon drizzle never to return.

Luke 😎

PS I booked 2 hours after reading a good review:rolleyes:

Any more disaster stories people!?

Great thread so well worth a bump. My first proper massage job was working shifts in a busy gym. The room was tiny, it was stuffy, freezing in winter/boiling in summer & next to exercise studios so shared loud music & commentary from the classes next door.

We were always fully booked. I used to be so embarrassed/apologetic with new clients and amazed when they came back. Some people can switch off to their surroundings and enjoy the treatment but it obviously bothered others.

I've heard it's still the same and still fully booked but I wouldn't pay for a treatment there no matter how good the therapist.

Relaxing (NOT) Experience

Bad experience . . . whilst on holiday on an idyllic island off Madagascar my husband said he’d pay for me to have a massage :D. We were only staying in this particular hotel a couple of nights so I didn’t have much choice but to take their last appointment at 6:30pm on our second evening or go without, and I wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity like that.

I’d been looking forward to my massage all day and I expectantly trundled off to Reception in plenty of time for my appointment. At Reception I was directed to the ‘massage suite’ (I use the term loosely), which was about a 10 minute walk away around the back of the hotel complex in the near pitch black. It all seemed a bit dodgy as I arrived at the little hut with a curtain across the door and after a few minutes a ‘therapist’ emerged only to tell me in broken English to come back in an hour :016:. As I have said, I was really looking forward to my massage but I was a bit put out because we also needed to eat in the hotel restaurant that evening which got very busy and it would put our evening plans out. Anyway as I was on holiday and meant to be chilling I tried not to get all cross about it (like I usually do) and decided to come back in an hour.

One hour later I duly returned and then had to sit outside for a further 15 minutes whilst the therapist finished off the previous client’s treatment. From the conversation I overheard I was given to understand that the previous client had just turned up on the off-chance, without a booking, which was why my appointment had been pushed back :035:. Getting more and more frustrated – I really needed this massage by now - I kept telling myself ‘I’m on holiday and I will enjoy myself’. I was eventually ushered through to a cubicle with a massage couch that had seen better days. The therapist acted out a mime of getting undressed and onto the couch and I duly followed suit with one therapist standing there watching me and another one walking in and out to sort out towels from the cupboard in my cubicle. As I lay there in just my knickers I started to take in my surrounding environment. The funniest thing was that above my head was a window with a very thin blind across it. The window was apparently without glass and the flimsy blind was billowing in the soft breeze. As the massage started, from the other side of the blind I could hear men’s voices, whistling and general chatter and then a cement mixer or some other sort of machinery started up. In fact I came to realise that my 10 minute walk from Reception had actually brought me to the perimeter of the hotel complex and what I was witnessing was the construction workers just starting work for the evening on the hotel development next door! The full horror of their proximity, the flimsy blind and my nakedness then hit me . The massage I received was not a particularly good one but by this time I was more conscious of the blind blowing open and exposing me spread-eagled on the couch in all my glory with a load of construction workers looking on than relaxing! I didn’t in fact receive my full hour’s treatment either, but by this stage I just wanted to get my clothes back on and out of there!

Having trained as a massage therapist myself in the UK I know how things should be done and in hindsight I did have to laugh to myself, just because it was so far from my expectation. I shan’t be doing that again in a hurry. Complain . . ? I could have done but sometimes when you’re on holiday and language is a barrier its just not worth it :banghead:. I’ll just put that one down to experience.

Blimey, don't know what to say about that one - rotten luck, glad you've taken it so well given how disappointing that is.

Thanks for the warning though, even in good ol' Blighty there's no harm checking out the credentials and the 'ambience' before booking, in the third world I guess it's absolutely essential. And clearly you can't just trust the hotel either.

To my shame Smelly Nelly your posting made me laugh out loud (and I love your forum name). Not as impressive as your story, but my wife booked an aromatherapy massage for me at one of the better hotels in St. Albans. Whilst indulging in the usual small talk I made the mistake of telling the therapist I was a sports masseur----- and what a mistake! This was immediately taken as a challenge and for the next 45 minutes I was subjected to what can only be described as a physical assault, elbow points, extreme percussion punctuated by "is this OK for you?". I was too 'English' to say anything else but "yes that's fine", through the tears. I also lied to my wife as I didn't want to hurt her feelings having gone to the trouble of booking me an appointment. Next day I was literally black and blue. I now lie about my profession when in similar situations--

When I am single I have a weekly massage. Some have been mediocre or too oily, but I've not had any odd/bad experiences. However something that tends to happen a lot here (Edinburgh) is that terrible habit therapists have of making up for the previous clients lateness by clawing back time from the next client's appointment. That stinks!

I'm now experienced enough to know that if the therapist is delayed and my appointment starts late - I clarify whether I can expect my full 50-minute treatment. If you don't say anything you'll find that your session is foreshortened.

I never ever return to a therapist who charges me for a full session but starts late and rushes to finish on the hour.

Ava x

Cold clammy towels

This thread is about going for a massage and the things that put a customer off coming back a second time.

Recently experienced a massage with towels lovely and hot from the tumble dryer but clammy and damp when they cooled down. Yuk! 🙁
