RE: camping in cornwall

Hi dreamer,

Just come back from a week travelling all round cornwall - boo hoo! I love the place so much too, different way of life isn't it? hoping in the future to move there too! When I start a family I'd like to make the move down there. Where abouts are you going? we tend to travel around but love St Ives area - so beautiful! hoping to go back in a few weeks but its quite far from Birmingham! Any tips on any nice places for when I go back? if you haven't been to minnack theatre yet try and go this time.

Love and light

Sadie x

RE: camping in cornwall

My parents lived the dream, and left their jobs in London and moved down to Cornwall to run a boarding kennels and cattery 24 years ago. I was only 15 and had to stay in London to finish my O levels before joining them - I hated it!!

It had its good points, I was allowed to have a horse (plenty of land and stables already on it) all my friends wanted to come anf stay etc. I went to college in St Austell to do my A levels, and as soon as I had finished I went straight back to Uni in London!!

Being uprooted from your friends at 16 is not good - especially into the sticks where the latest bus runs at 6 pm and your mum ahs to drive you everywhere!

Of course now my husband and I and the kids go back and stay as often as we can - most of my family are inm Cornwall now as my brother is in the Navy and been based at Culdrose for over 20 years. His family and kids are of course there too, as is my Nan who lives on my mums land in her own chalet.

Just no work there really - unless you are very lucky, and the house p[rices areno longer as cheap as they used to be.

I agree it is a totally different way of life - they do things "dreckly" - in their own time in other words!

Karen

RE: camping in cornwall

I packed my job in in London 7 years ago and moved to Cornwall. I do think it is a lovely place to live, but there are very many things that still bug me. You cannot escape the weather here, while in the summer it is stunning, it the winter it is windy, cold and miserable as there is very little to do indoors (especially for children). Public transport is appalling as Karen said you do need to drive everywhere. I expect many of the problems are the same all over the country but healthcare is in a worse state than the rest of the UK as there is only 1 hospital in Cornwall. Education is also in a pretty bad state. I don't think unemployment is as big an issue, there is work if you want it, trouble is there are a lot of lazy people around. Sadly I think a lot of Cornwall is tired and pretty rundown, everything seems to be done on a shoestring, but you are charged a lot for poor services.

Although these things don't sound that major they can be a complete pain in the arse day in day out. Living in Cornwall is a totally different way of life and it can be quite a culture shock.

:)Hi Everyone!
We are also going to Cornwall on a camping holiday during August. The place we are staying at is called the Monkey Tree Holiday Park. It is not far from Perranporth and Newquay. Really looking forward to the break.;)
