Hello
Thought that I would throw a few ideas in the melting pot. Some things to consider when carrying out your studies.
- Set yourself some goals for the study session, this sets the RAS into action.
- Have everything you need at hand and avoid any distractions.
- Study in 20 minute chunks, the adult brain can only stay focused on learning for this time. It also improve the abilty to take in information as a result of the Primacy and Recency effect.
- Use Mind Maps for making notes, very good for subjects such as A&P.
- Make up question and answer cards. The postcard sized file cards are good for this, you can also use different coloured cards for different subject areas.
- Make audio tapes of your questions and answers, think like an exam question writer, there are only so many questions that can be written about a particular subject. Audio tapes are great for revision when having some down time. (Repetition is the mother of skill).
- Use your diary to make a revison plan, often this part of studying is neglected. A suggested revision plan would be to revise each area of study after the following timescale: after 10 minutes, 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year. Each revision should only be for about five minutes. The Q & A cards are great for this.
Use self hypnosis to relax before your study session, this will allow you to start your session with a calm and relaxed frame of mind.
Keep the vision of the end result in mind, focus on what you want, not what you do not want. The result we get tend to be what we consistently focus on.
Hope this helps.

Peter

Pnemonics
Hi, one of my friends received cards or information from other members on learning muscles by Pnemonics - does anyone have this information, & if so, could you please forward it to me? I'm having difficulty trying to keep this information in my brain & need any help I can get!! Mainly I'm looking for - movements on muscles, muscles in particular parts of the body, ie: back, superficial, then back, deep, or leg, or arm. Things like that... Unfortunately my friend had loaned out her copy of this & she doesnt have another copy or seem to have kept it on file...
Thanks so much in advance for anyone that can help,
I always found that mind maps were very VERY helpful when revising! i would write all my revision notes out then make a mind map out of all the key points on an A3 piece of paper with the title of the topic in the middle. I could literally refer to different points of the map in the exam which would help trigger various memories, really really helpful as it is so visual and visual memory is very powerful!
Time Table
I have always found that a time table of subjects to be helpful, everyone has stated excellent and very effective revision techniques. With a timetable you are able to structure your learning very effectively. Especially with A&P. Each week/month looking at a system, then closer to exam day, each day condense the systems and spend the day looking at your mind maps, drawings and lists.
Keep condensing down until you are able to have all the notes in one pocket size book.
Best of luck
