Ok friends, bear with me on this one, I'll try and explain my question as clearly as possible 😉

I remember seeing on a TV programme a few years back that the water we drink has been recycling itself since time began. So the glass of water I have before me has been through countless cycles of humans, animals, plant and even dinosaurs! It has been drunk, absorbed, digested and...er...how do i put this...removed from all types of creature over millions of years. Basically it gets used down on Earth then turns to gas and returns to the atmosphere as clouds. It then rains and we begin the cycle again.

So the question is, if this applies to water, what about food? If you think about it we are really in a closed 'bubble' ie. nothing comes into the Earth from space (except the odd but of meteorite etc.), so everything must recycle. So the orange I just ate - part of that would have been eaten in another form (maybe not as an orange) by millions of other creatures. Jesus may have eaten my orange! T-Rex may have eaten a herbivore with my orange inside, then released it in his dung 😀

Do you see what I mean? And when we die, the little grubs and worms eat us, they get eaten by birds etc. etc. - so everything is constantly recycled. So every seed comes from past lives.

Does this make sense? I think it does, but if anyone has any thoughts or scientific comments go for it!

Yep, I get you Jason:DI guess what you're saying makes sense.....? the more you think about it, the more complicated it gets!

In actual fact, years ago I sawon a TV programme-perhaps the same one?-that the specificnumber of times that all the water on earth (including the glass in your hand!)has passed through a human body 7 times.

*Mel puts on her know-it-all hat* 😮

You're absolutely right :)As well as the water cycle, there are also the Carbon cycle and the Nitrogen cycle. Every living thing you see around you is based on carbon (there are some wierd things based on sulphur, but most of them live near thermal vents in the sea!). The body works just the same as a car, except we run on glucose, not petrol :DWe breathe in oxygen, and breathe out carbon dioxide, plants do the reverse...when we (or a tree) die, our bodies decompose and turn into soil...the nutrients from the soil are absorbed by plants....we eat the plants (or the animals that eat the plants) and off it all goes again....pretty cool huh?

The most fun carbon fact? Diamonds are really compressed carbon, made at very high temperatures & pressures. EVERY diamond in the world was made in a star - NOW you know why they cost so much!

I'll shut up now 😉

RE: Total Recycling

...and do not forget that our Sun and solar system has itself been through many recycling changes before it reached the point where planets formed from the cosmic gases, probably at least three formations and explosions. So everything that was ever made on Earth, and everything that will ever be made on Earth, will eventually be subjected to 'space recycling' and will form part of another planet.

Puts it in perspective. We are all space dust.

Love,
Patsy.
