Hello

Wasn't sure where to put this but thought this was the best place.

Does anybody have an interest in forensic science? I am looking into it as a career (I know... completely different to what I have been trained to do!!!). However I have ALWAYS been interested in it, and am facinated by every aspect of it.

I need to do A Levels in CHemistry and Human Biology which I really don't mind as I love learning new things and am naturally good at science. So I'm hoping to do that next september (unless i find one that starts in the new year... any ideas?) and then go on to Uni to study Forensic Psychology :DI am so excited by this. I have already picked my Uni... Anglia Ruskin. Has the best course nearest to me...

Can anyone give me an insight into the A Levels I'm looking to take... and if anyone has any info or comments for me that would be fab!

THanks a lot! 🙂

RE: Forensics

There's a lot of different specialities in forensics, such as photographic forensics, scene of crime forensics, psychological forensics etc.

The best suggestion I could make is to phone up your local police headquarters (on the regular phone number, not the 999 ;)) and ask to speak to someone in the forensics department. I'm sure they'd be very helpful in advising you of the different fields and the requirements to get into that area.

RE: Forensics

I can assure you there's nothing to be scared of. I think most forensic people working for the police are called "police staff" rather than "police officers" and that's because they aren't trained as officers, but are just regular day job workers like the rest of us. Just consider it like phoning up any other company and asking to speak to someone in a particular department.

Hi Mir,

Good luck with your chosen path!

For info on the A levels, you can read through the AQA specifications onPDFhere, which will give you an idea of what's in the syllabus. I notice that AQA are withdrawing human biology as an A level so I'm not sure whether this is the same with other examination boards or whether they are an exception. I think I'm right in saying that an A level in biology is OK though.

A colleague of mine is in his second year of Uni (Canterbury) and is studying forensic psychology..he loves it!

Wishing you all the best,

Az x
