I need advice on how to stop cats using my garden as their toilet - they are pooing on the lawn and not digging. Does anyone have any natural remedies that will stop the cats coming? I have heard that they don't like citrus things so can I put orange peel out or do I have to plant a citrus plant? Any advice welcome.
Thanks Sam
RE: Cats pooing on grass advice please
Hi Sam,
We had the same problem last year but bought one of those little devices that lets off a high pitched sound when approached. Definitely works as we've had nothing since - you can get them in the big DIY stores.
I also read about citrus but we didn't try this so I have no idea if it works or not - sorry.

RE: Cats pooing on grass advice please
- get a dog
- get a cat
- plant holly or anything scratchy
- lay new turf so there's no dirt for the cats to dig up
- string up old cds on from the trees
- put children's windmills in the ground
- cover the poo patch with fine garden net and keep in place with pieces of cane (this stopped my two cats and everyone else's pooing in the flower bed in my front garden )
- play Rolling Stones' music loudly 🙂

Thanks for the advice - Have ordered one of the cat scarers - had never heard of it before so thanks. Already have windmills - these cats are very brave. Will also try the cd's as will look quite nice too.

A former neighbour of mine used the orange peel treatment. He used to get them cheap or even free from a friend in the fruit trade, andscattered the half oranges after he'd squeezed out the juice and drunk it.
I've used a fairly strong solution of Jeyes Fluid, made up in a watering can, with success ... that was on a gravelled front garden surrounded by low brick walls ... and Ipoured it onthe sides of the walls as well so it would last longer in wet weather. You might want to do a "test" on a bit of lawn that doesn't show too much ... I don't know what it would do to the grass [:-]
