I everyone,
Thank you all again for your lovely words of support. I have now come to the next dilemma... the cat has survived but due to head trauma is still a little dazed, can only see in 1 eye and is currently not using a litter box so basically has some degree of brain damage; The vet is happy for the cat to be rehomed with me/ my friend as it is leading a very content life at the moment but they will not be attempting to re-home it with anyone else as they feel it is too much of a commitment for someone to take on and they are already overloaded with what they referred to as 'normal cats' that need re-homing... the dilemma is that I have 2 dogs 1 of which is diabetic and a parrot, the smaller of the 2 dogs would not welcome the cat into our household and it would create major problems... my friend is in the process of attempting to adopt the cat but as he does not own the house he lives in he is struggling to gain the necessary permission.
The cat would have to live inside at all times and be watched if outside but other then that with regular check ups she is will be fine, at the moment she is on antibiotics and painkillers but thats all, I am trying to arrange to see the cat tomorrow but haven't been able to get through, the vet agrees that the cat could still have a good quality of life yet there suggestion is pretty much if I don't take it it will be put down when it comes to the end of its 7 days tomorrow!!!
I am attempting to find a foster-cat home that will take her as she is only approximately 8 years old and just needs some love and affection, I am prepared to pay all the cats costs and its medical needs will somehow still be met by the rspca which I can take the cat to. The cats protection leagues advice was 'if its's brain damaged it shouldnt be alive' but just because it may function slightly different now doesnt mean it can't enjoy life??
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do??
Am I being cruel trying to maintain this cats life despite everyone else not seeming to care about it??
Do you think that the cat could quite happily live on for another 10 years as the vet has said or do you think its unfair to it now??
any advise?? anyone....please 🙂 ??
Thank you all so much x x x

There is absolutely no reason why this cat can't enjoy a happy life.

My cat Kenny has a brain injury, he got run over by a car also, spent a whole week at the vets - he was in a bad way and nearly died. He is now blind in one eye, has a few problems retracting his claws (hardly noticeable now) and is absolutely healthy apart from some brain damage he suffered which doesn't affect him in any way.

He even goes outside so isn't an inside cat.

I don't think you are being cruel at all. You may find that he recovers very well just like my Kenny.

I hope he is given a chance at a happy life. My Kenny seriously nearly died, his injuries were appalling but he does absolutely fine and leads a full life.

Hi Rosi1,
Thanks for your reply its very encouraging, I am trying my hardest to sort something out for the poor little one, did your kenny have problems weeing every where, etc? It's very early days for this cat still as it will only be one week ago that I found it at 2.25am tomorow. How long did it take your cat to recover to how he is now?
thank you

I'm not sure about Kenny weeing everywhere - he actually belonged to my close friend, came to stay with me to recover when she moved in with her mum and couldn't keep both cats, so he came to stay with me and has been here ever since.

I did give him lots of healing, he would sit on my lap every day and I definitely think that helped in the long run. Now you would never guess he nearly didn't make it.

Keep us posted on what happens to this little one.

well i hope the cat will have good home as dont see why should be put to sleep after all the hard work you have done that would be a shame.

was very surprised by the cats protection leagues comment if it s brain damaged it shouldnt be alive! of course some cats get brain damaged live their lives ok( more or less) might need more care but still a cat!

the problem with rehoming is there are too many cats.and can be diffcult to rehome vet have no resources and somtims have to put them down which upset me even healthy ones.:dft004: i think kittens as too many are breed.
