Not to everyones liking, but I recently found this site and think it's wonderful, if not terribly sad.

When I was at uni I applied to do a PhD looking at the impact of social and language deprivation in early childhood. I would have had the opportunity to spend time in the orphanages in Romania, looking at ways in which the children could be better nurtured to limit the effects of being there in the first place, unfortunately, I didn't get the funding but the interest is still there.. and the sadness at how some of these young people have suffered...

Thanks Lionheart.. could be an option. I curently do some treatments at a daycare centre with adults with special needs, it's the highlight of my week, I think precious little comes close, cause they just go for it, get into their treatment and enjoy.

RE: Feral Children

I've browsing the forum and found this old thread... looking at the website posted above, I found these words: "As is common in such cases, other children of the couple — the family included seven children, one biological and the rest adopted — appeared to have a normal childhood, and neighbours say they regularly played in the street with other children. However, a further two children were also taken into custody."

Does anyone know what is the impact of growing up in such environment for the 'normal' siblings of a confined child? I imagine their views on life and relationships..and everything else, I guess - must be really twisted...do they receive any counselling? What happens to them in the future? Why in some cases only some siblings are taken into care, leaving the rest of the children under the influence of inhuman, sick monsters?

Thank you for any answers...

The two key things you mention here are "such environment" and "must be really twisted". The environmentchildren grow up in, whenthey know no different, is what appears to them to be "normal". Being "really twisted" is purely a subjective view of people on the outside of that social situation. That doesn't mean we have to agree with all social environments and just let them be as they are, as we all have our own subjective views about what is a good environment and what isn't, usually with the majority who share similar views being the ones in power, dictating that the other environments are wrong in some way. Councelling or treatment of any kind would be a way of trying to alter the "normal" view of that child to bring it into line with what the controlling culture believes is the correct norm for society i.e. what they believe is correct. Whether the children identified in the above website receive councelling or not, I guess that depends on the local society in question and the authorities involved.
