RE: Astrology, Omar Khayyam, and Yogananda

Thank you for sharing further insight about the poetry Venetian.

Never did ask him about the women he was always to be busy cracking jokes with deeper spiritual meaning, so yes Maria I am not surprised at all. Omar never could take anything or anyone very seriously so no doubt he is laughing very loudly indeed. Good on him I say for life is a celebration and they say that laughter is the best medicine. In fact come to think of it I have been laughing all day today so I think you are spot on he is around. He had I and others rolling around in tears at times with his good humour which was on his majesty's pleasure.

For those might be interesting in the poetry and its meanings here is link that gives many different translations, literal and inner meaning and I have to say having looked through them earlier today, I did laugh at how one can get from literal to some of the meanings mentioned here, it is quite amusing and would take a great stretch of the imagination. I am sure Omar would think so too!

It does make one wonder if a word is not a word, then when is a word a word? Or in Omar's words why can they not accept that a brown jug is a brown jug why do they have to make it into a Chalice? Yes a brown jug as an inner meaning one can fill it with joy but that does not make it the Holy Grail.

Passion for the planet is one thing but taking others words out of context to please the translator is quite something else.

Now what was you saying about astrology Venetian?

PS

But in defence of all of the translators of Omar's work, I understand from a beloved Muslim that to really appreciate and understand Arabic writings you must read the Arabic. I was told there is no truely accurate translation of the Qu'ran for this reason because all of the words just do not compute, we do not have the appropriate alternatives in english on all accounts. It was said that the words of the Qu'ran in Arabic are the most beautiful song but yet it does not translate the same way.

I'm sure this is true, and if we all had the time it would be nice to be erudite and to learn Arabic. However, I suppose you are writing in relation to Omar Khayyam, and I am surprised he didn't explain to you that he was Persian, hence wrote in Persian, one of the Indo-Iranian languages, not Arabic. In fact, he wrote in Classical Persian. Persian, given its structure, is actually easier than Arabic for an English-speaker to learn, though I haven't, and is quite distinct from Arabic though about 1,000 years ago Arabic letters were adopted to write Persian in. (But there are many variants of the language.)

Going on others' opinions, and also simply contrasting the available Khayyam translations, FitzGerald may not have had a clue what the poems were actually about, as he, as stated, had no spiritual insights so took the symbolic language literally, but word-for-word as a language-translator he was as good as anybody. It took a while for those with insight to come along after 1859 and perceive that the whole body of Khayyam's work is allegorical (which is pretty obvious actually) and about the mystical or spiritual Path. I suppose it takes the insight to perceive this, and I don't see any point in trying in futility to convince anyone, as all scholars and mystics accept the 'inner' meanings of the poems and recognise their non-literal sense.

I love a good belly laugh, and people nowadays are saying that the great comics of yester-year have never really been replaced. I don't know about that, but whose style does Omar most closely resemble? Is he structured with a prepared script (being an author) like the Two Ronnies? Or does he ad lib a lot according to audience reactions such as, say, Billy Connolly? Being Persian, does he wear a Tommy Cooper fez these days?;)

I am just a mere woman Venetian so I know nothing.

But I have been shown that each and every letter carries its own vibrational frequency and sacred geometry, so a powerful impact on the metaphysics of the universe when letters form different words. The Holy Spirit has also shared with me that different texts are given to particular nations for specific reasons and they are for them alone just like each country as its own species of flowers, fruits and power animals. From the words of Carl Jung it is clear he also recognised the power of the word on the cosmos and how important it is that we do not search outside of our own sphere of influence that has been carefully planned by GOD for each piece forms part of the magical jigsaw of the architectural design and blueprint. I feel that GOD gives each individual and each nation, country and culture what it needs at the right time and in this I trust. For in the beginning was the WORD is probably the most powerful statement ever made and holds many secrets of the universe.

So maybe these words now return to your original intent of how we can impact on the universe and override astrology but it begs the question can one override GOD ? The other point of overriding pre-destination is that its knowledge is in the unconscious mindfield, and so hard for someone to change if they are not consciously aware of the soul's plan. Many people think they know the soul's plan but I have learnt that nothing is static and GOD shifts the goal posts as and when it is appropriate, due to the fact the divine plan is not about one individual's dreams or goals, but we are all a very small piece of a huge jigsaw puzzle that is part of a constant and ever evolving universe. So for me the only way I can be sure that I stay on track is in complete surrender and submission to GOD because then as the tides shift I can be the instrument for Thy will, will be done.

It is easy to be a big fish in a small pond but there are much bigger fish in the sea.

PS

I would say silly billy, he left in 2003 as Omar he wore the typical arabic headwrap and had the most amazing wide smile and beautiful sparkling eyes just like a Toby Jug and used metaphors a lot.

"Of what use to us is the wisdom of the Upanishad or the insight of Chinese yoga, if we desert the foundations of our own culture as though they were errors outlived and, like homeless pirates, settle with thievish intent on foreign shores?" Carl Jung
