Hi All,
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster!
I hope someone can help me with my dream I had last night, it scared the life out of me.
I dreamt that one of my (three) sisters had already committed suicide. Then two friends had done it too, and my other two sisters decided it was what they wanted to do. They begged me to do it with them and I refused. They decided to do it at 10am. I was upset and refused to be part of it, so I went to my own house. Then at ten to one in the afternoon I phoned my parents house and asked had they done it, and my dad answered and said 'yes' and broke down. This is when I woke up and was bawling. I thought it was real for a couple of minutes.
Now - one of my sisters (one of the two who did it together in the dream) is living is Australia since a few months ago, and another one is moving over to her in about two months (the one who was already dead in the dream). The two sisters had (in my dream) signed Do not resuscitate forms so we would not try to save them.
Someone, please come to the rescue.....
There are two basic approaches to dreams, some people say that dreams are to be interpreted, and others say that you should not try and interpret your dreams.
I favour the latter, though sometimes I cannot help but have a dream, and realise what it was about. Let me put it this way, if we were meant to fly, we would have been born with wings, if we were meant to interpret dreams, we would be able to do it as instinctually as breathing or eating. So when I wake up, and I do understand my dreams, I think that I was supposed to, and when i wake up and do not understand my dreams, I think that I am not supposed to.
The subconscious mind has many millions of functions that the average person is not aware of; but it copes OK, with little assistance; trust that your mind is just playing through some unresolved issues whilst you sleep. During your waking life, observe tangible things, and act upon them; if a friend or family member expresses upset, be there to listen, if they don't express upset, then you can't help. We can only act upon on real things, when we act upon our assumptions, or worse, even our dreams, then we mess things up.
This is the essence of the awakened approach to life, as taught by the Buddhas. All of human misery can be brought down to an unclear boundary between imaginings and reality.

Would you jump off a cliff if your sisters did ?
meaning you can decide for yourself in life what you want to do, you do not have to go with them, you are strong enough to cope without them near you, even though you are used to that.
It is time for you to go about your daily life without them, they will still be there for you, but ultimately your life is your life, let them live theirs and you live yours.
thats it
good luck a bright future is ahead of you if you work hard at it, then everything will come easy to you, a better relationship is coming with great prospects, so grab onto it when the time is right, and let the past stay in the past ?
bye
Hi Roisin. You poor girl, I hate dreams like that! But they have the effect of making us feel grateful that they're not true, and appreciating our present circumstances more! (Could that be their message to us?)
Usually, dreams about the death of a loved one express our concern & love for them (according to many psychology books) - often by being brought out in a 'worst-case scenario'. So yours emphasises how much you love & value your sisters.
I think the dream simply plays out your fear of losing them - especially as they are moving so far away. Your subconscious mind played out your worst fear (death) so dramatically as a way of flagging up your sadness at 'losing' them to another continent.
This brings you to a deeper appreciation of them & gratitude for having them in your life.
Hope this helps. Send them Love, and the fears will subside! 🙂
Blessings - Starshower.
Hi Roisin,
It's so horrible to have such dreams and I went through a phase of having nightmares that i was so scared of going to sleep - so i do sympathise with you. But I agree with what starshower has said on this. Your subconscious can do millions of things and can try to make some sense of them in ways we don't undertsand. Most of my dreams (and i can hardly remember any of mine) are re-hashes of what's happened the previous day (like something i've see on TV mixed up with people I may have met).
I'm no expert on dreams but i've read several times that dreaming of death is not a literal thing - it's about one chapter closing in your life and a new chapter opening/beginning. It's ironic that one sister is in Australia and one is going there shortly. A new chapter for them and a new chapter for you ?? It also struck me that in your dream they committed suicide (their own decision) and din't die of natural causes (which would have not been thier decision but foisted on them by fate/life). Moving to Australia is a decision making move as well - so they have actually decided to change their lives by emigrating and their new lives have been chosen by them not foisted on them (hope this makes some sense).
Take care and let us know how you are.
