Hey everyone,
I just read over the sticky thread where Lightwinds said any dream you can remember means something and since the dream I had last night was so vivid and unusual I thought Id post it to see what you all think of it.
I had a very busy night in my dreams. So much happened I really cant write most of it. But two things stand out. One was a sad old man who at first I thought was Spike Milligan when he had a while beard, but it turned out to not be him. I felt really strong emotions of concern towards him. Then later in the dream I was living in a big block of flats and a few doors down something terrible happened which police and ambulances came to. Then later I was lying on the floor of my cousins bedroom. My cousin and his wife were in the bed (I have only met him once in my life and until last year never even knew he existed) asleep and he suddenly started having a nightmare and couldnt wake up from it. His wife couldnt wake him and eventually his little children had to come and lead him off to their room, still asleep, to play because he was so upset! It turned out he had been working (he is a copper in real life) at the scene that had been in the flat next door, and a child had died from drinking the fluid out of a battery. He was so disturbed from it he was having these terrible dreams. I was busy trying to sort things out for everyone, phoning his work etc. Which is strange because in real life I am actually quite lazy. I woke up too early and was really anxious to get back to sleep to sort out the problem for them and I felt very strong emotions like wanting to gossip, and also concern again.
The really strange thing is I thought I saw the sad old man on TV this morning on a show for missing people. They showed a photo of him and I immediately remembered the old man from my dream. I know this could be me getting carried away here. I am not prone to psychic dreams or anything like that so I have no reason to think it really was him, but it is strange none the less.
Does anyone else have experiences like this?
Hi Spangle,
I love these sort of dreams because they tell us a lot about ourselves. I wouldn't worry about recongnising people in dreams because the mind just picks what is available from the subconscious memory to display.
However, the dream has a meaning and the key is that you saw 3 generations of people that represent you. I would guess that you've been thinking about your life and future and that it's a worry. But it's not just about you future, but it's also your relationship with mortality.
Therefore, I think you are asking yourself:
- Am I reaching my full potential?
- Have I got the time to do it?
- Did I screw up my life as a child?
That's my interpretation, but I'm sure others will see it differently.
Myarka
Thanks Myarka, that's a completely different perspective! I guess the thing with interpreting dreams is not to be literal!
What you suggest is true for me but nothing new. I am always thinking about my present and future. Sometimes to the point of distraction! But at present I am happy with the steps I am making to be successful.
The thing is are dreams telling you things so you can go and act on them or are they just the mind's way working things out?
The thing is are dreams telling you things so you can go and act on them or are they just the mind's way working things out?
It's more about what you are telling you, than what a dream is telling you. In your mind you have your whole life experience stored, not just what you can recall in short, medium or long term memory. Add to that your memory is recording things all the time that you may not acknowledge, but it's still there none the less.
When you dream your memory doesn't work to the same set of rules that reality does. So in waking time dreams may seem strange, whereas in sleep time they were totally logical.
So the mind is responding to your emotional thought, and it doesn't matter what images it pulls up to illustrate the dream. Therefore, dreams never have a literal meaning because they are about your emotional world that doesn't always have logical words to describe it. How many times have you felt good, bad or indifferent about something without knowing why?
So dreams contain our most sensitive emotional thoughts that we either ignore or have become desensitised to.
For this reason I dont think dreams tell us future events, but I do think they are telling us something. They give us the emotional meaning to what's going on in our lives at the time. Dreams can help us by telling us our intuitions are right, or they can be a warning.
But a word of warning, many people try to fit their dreams to their circumstances. It is for that reason I prefer to give dream interpretations to people I don't know and have no knowledge of.
Myarka.
Not sure what my recurrent dreams say...filthy, overflowing toilets, full to the brim with you know what, spilling all over the floor. I am desperate, and can't find a clean one to sit on. Other dream is trying to swim, but the pool is always full of debri, constantly stopping me from getting anywhere.
