Hello 🙂

Just wondering if there are other causes for sore tender breasts other than pregancy and monthly cycle? I never experience tender breasts but have had for last week. Am about 3 weeks into cycle and a little concerned, as I don't have any other symptoms that would indicate pregnancy such as nausea or dizziness.

Thanks,

Star_dust

Hi Stardust

Marilyn Glenville says that it can be due to a hormone imbalance too - when your oestrogen to progesterone ratio is imbalanced causing 'oestrogen dominance' or too much progesterone. If your breasts become lumpy, then fibrocystic breast disease can be a cause of painful breasts. If it is just in one place and there is a lump then do get it looked at as soon as possible.

I can't answer your original question, but I found that taking Starflower oil daily helped immenseley.

Almond oil makes good for breasts.

Caroline beat me to it but if you are concerned, pop along to see your GP.

I am long way down the menopause road but it still happens to me because I went though an early menopause and have to take HRT.

Best wishes.

There are no lumps and it is a general all over tenderness on both, rather than concentrated in one area. Took Early Preg. Test last night and it was negative. If it doesn't improve by time period comes, then will def go to doctor!

Just be careful with evening primrose oil. Don't take massive quantities of it.

I recently had someone who was taking a super strength EPO which is omega 6 and had no source of omega 3 to balance it out.

She was getting a dermatitis reaction on her arms which was most likely an inflammatory response to the omega 6 in the EPO. Omega 6 can convert to what is known as arachnidonic acid which is actually pro-inflammatory so must be balanced with omega 3. Omega 3 is always anti-inflammatory.

The balance of omegas is subject to much debate and if you buy an omega supplement it is usually 2 parts omega 3 to one part omega 6 i.e. 2:1 ratio, however I have seen some recommendations of taking the omegas in a ratio of 1:3 (or 4) in favour of omega 6 (I can't find the justification for this anywhere despite researching). It is thought the ratio that people are eating the omegas can be as bad as 1:20 in favour of omega 6 which is quite worrying and is probably one reason we have as much inflammatory disease in the western world.

If taking a oil supplement I would suggest a combination and not just EPO on it's own.

Wise words Patchouli. After I stopped taking the pill due to breast tenderness side effects, I started to take up to 6 EPO capsules at night before bed to help my hormone balance, and couldn't understand why my constant breast tenderness hadn't dissipated. It was only after a several weeks where I had forgotten to take my EPO the breast tenderness went away.

I also went to the doctors during this time as my hair became thinner too. They did a blood test and it all came back within 'normal range', so I was offered nothing. I didn't have any lumps or bumps either, but had a breast examination with nothing to report. So I let nature take it's course and eventually it disappeared, after I cut out the pill and the EPO.

Though I have been told by a naturopath that magnesium could be useful... I can't offer any facts on this, so some research would be required, unless anyone else knows anything?

Pinga,
Did your hair return to normal after a while? It's funny you should mention that, because I've been paranoid the last few months that my hair is becoming very thin!

Re: Omega Oils ...
I'm vegetarian all my life, and eat a lot of nuts and seeds, particularly sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds sometimes, and use olive oil daily. Would I still need to take oil supplements such as udos?

What's your source of omega 3 as from what I can think atm the main source for veggies is flaxseed/linseed, microalgae & green leafy veg. All the rest are omega 6 (nuts/seeds) and olive oil is omega 9.

So'z you need a good source of omega 3 for balance.

I would eat quite a bit of green leafy veg, but guess I need to think more about getting the balance of omegas right! Will get some linseeds and start taking them too. 🙂

In order to access the oils you will need to grind the linseeds as fine as possible just before you eat them (to avoid oxidation by exposure to air) - I use them in porridge or in home-made smoothies. Linseed still has some omega-6 in it, so go easy on other O-6.

Thanks Caroline, I bought some today on my lunchbreak!
Anyway after all that, the tender breasts just went away again, and it must have been hormonal - the only thing I was worried about was fact that it was new - didnt ever had that symptom before monthly cycle. I was reading in Louise Hay book that breast problems are linked with a refusal to nourish the self, and putting everyone else first. Food for thought!

It could be any number of things - best advice would be to go and see your GP.
